I can’t help but think about the chats demand for a Minecraft Awesome Olympic soundtrack. XD Makes me wish I could sing better and had better voice recording equipment. Great job to all the people who built, donated, and competed. And good job to Fraser for not hitting me once. ['[]‘]
Watched the live stream, but still felt compelled to watch the opening ceremonies again, and will have to watch the epic Parkour finale again at some point.
Honestly…considering how much time people had to get things in order (since the show was pushed back a few weeks), I am a little surprised how unorganized it seemed to be. Half the time it felt like a complete clusterfuck.
A) Silent was pretty much alone in organizing and running the Olympics build from start of building to end of show. For wrangling around 100 people with a 6-10 second lag on the stream to each event to building all the flags almost all from memory to improvising when people were gone or when Fraser became unpredictable or impatient, he did a pretty darn good job organizing.
B) As we know from past builds, Fraser, while obviously having been pretoured and knowing what the events were and everything, can be very impulsive, improvising, and unpredictable during the show. The Field Events, for example, were supposed to be a quick joke event, but Fraser focused on them quite heavily live. He can also mess up sometimes, like with the Creepers in the Archery. Fraser can also spontaneously decide for everybody to intentionally get into a clusterfuck, like the Soccer riot or Water Polo. This can and does lead to supposed chaos sometimes.
C) You can’t really plan for 100 people to all be there or to all behave. Some people didn’t or couldn’t show up, some people left in the middle of the show, and some people didn’t understand the rules or misinterpreted them. They’re simple mistakes and unfortunate issues that have to be worked around and sometimes can’t be planned for.
Not calling you out or trying to disprove you or anything, but I felt the need to point out reasons why it may seem so unorganized despite Silent doing an amazing job in being as organized as possible under those stressful conditions.
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to sound like I was complaining, though maybe it came off that way. It was still a very enjoyable show despite some of the setbacks (like the Archery incident). And for sure Silent deserves major koodoos. In no way was I trying to imply otherwise.
Really if I took a moment and thought about it, it’s probably not as surprising as I initially thought.
This was so much fun!!! I’m proud to say that this was the first live show I participated in~ :D Hope to do many, many more! Wonderful job, everyone! <3
One of the best shows in recent memory. Amazing stuff. I saw some of the people build this stuff in the server and it was really interesting to see everybody so hard at works.
One of the best builds I’ve taken part in so far :D
It was all a lot of fun, shame I couldn’t stay all the way till the end but after a certain point I was just falling asleep in my chair.
Seriously big up to SilentWindofDoom for keeping us rowdy lot on fairly good order during the whole thing. You are a wondrous guide.
I’ve only just watched the opening ceremonies, and this is still some of the best VGA I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait for the events! GO AQUAMAN / NEO JAPAN!!!
I build a nice house out of mixed types of wood and stone and think to myself. “I could totally be on this show.” Then I see someone that has built many of the wonders of the world and I think to myself. “At least I can see how real players play Minecraft…” This build was just AMAZING. I would love to be on the server just to go through every build, even if it took me days on end to complete it, it would be a great experience.
I am so glad this got up so fast! As much fun as this was to participate in half the time I couldn’t watch the stream bc I was trying to watch what was in front of my face, I’ve been waiting to be able to sit and see what all I missed. XD So much fun competing with everyone, congrats to all. I almost only participated in the build portion of this challenge, but by the time things got rolling I was glad my fellow Renimarians talked me into competing, too. ;)
