Last night I was watching the most recent Phoenix Wright playthrough because I missed it on Tuesday. When Fraser was impersonating Tommy Lee Jones someone mentioned that he sort of sounded like “AppleBloom or AppleJack.” I don’t think this would’ve been a problem if the chat didn’t IMMEDIATELY FREAK OUT towards the person who mentioned it. The same thing happened on the previous one, except that it was a joking(I’m hoping) insult towards bronies in general. With all the “stop talking about ponies” and “shut up about that” it didn’t seem fair.
I know we don’t want a pony discussion board going on during a show but jesus christ people it wasn’t even a fucking problem until your initial reaction. Saying “Twilight Sparkle” is NOT going to ruin the fucking show. The bronies didn’t even show any sign that they were going to start anything.
I think the best solution would be to let people mention or throw a reference to ponies, but if they start taking over the chat about it then make them stop.
April 27, 2012 at 7:56 am #26813Since you weren’t there at the time, you didn’t see the delay between the comment written and Fraser reading it. The chat had already become flooded with pony comments by the time Fraser read it. If the others overreacted, its because they anticipated that the bronies were about to go overboard. In fact, shadow chat fared a lot worse than the show chat, as it took longer to bring back under control with the whole ponies thing.
I can’t speak for the others, but when I see pony comments pop up, I know it means trouble. I have no opinion on the show itself, but in my experience, bronies tend to get too excited and derail things very, very quickly. Most likely this is why the chat reacted how it did. I would advise more self-restraint in the future.
April 27, 2012 at 11:19 am #26843Maybe I can put in a word through experiences in other forums, chatrooms, parties, etc as a brony.
To bronies: if the ponies get brought up whether in chat or on the show, don’t incessantly start talking about ponies because it just gets on everyone’s nerves and give the fanbase a bad rep.
To everyone else: if the ponies get brought up whether in chat or on the show, just let it slide. Bitching incessantly about people liking a certain cartoon is just annoying and pointless.
I know that when I come to the streams (which I haven’t lately because all the games they’ve been playing are either in my backlog of games to play or I’m just not interested in), I’m there to watch the guys on the couch play a game and be lovable snarky assholes. If I want to talk about ponies, or anything else really, I’d go somewhere else where a discussion of that topic would be better suited.
Hopefully people will realize this and stop derailing the chat. Of course I’m just some stupid guy from shadow chat so what do I know.
April 27, 2012 at 11:24 am #26845I think the chat gets derailed easily no matter what gets mentioned. If I remember they went on and on about 9/11 and some other things recently. The pony comments were pretty much just where it’s from before the freak out began which ended up making it a hate vs love fight. I think there is no real good side here. Overenthusiastic fans will go nuts and defend what they love while people who don’t will do their damnedest to put them down.
I’m a fan of the show but I will not talk about it unless it’s something that is dedicated to it and VGA is not it.

April 27, 2012 at 11:37 am #26848There were people already talking about ponies earlier that night that was turning into a small flame war. That’s why it got to that point so quickly. It was a conversation that was disrespectful on both sides and had nothing to do with VGA. It’s basically become a meme with people insulting each other just to insult each other.
I’ve seen both sides of this get very ugly towards each other, and it cannot continue to go on during live shows. It really has nothing to do with the show, just people derailing the topic at hand and insulting each other for no reason.
April 27, 2012 at 11:49 am #26849Bottom line: Keep the pony talk off show.
Because people are idiots. A lot less fallout if there’s no show when they are.
April 27, 2012 at 1:46 pm #26889I watched the show on youtube too. I didn’t even notice it. Fraser mention it once and that was it. It didn’t ruined the show or anything. Jesus christ people, relax a bit, everything has to be taken seriously on the internet apparently…..
April 28, 2012 at 9:32 am #27049I feel that if any group starts chatting about their group things specifically it would look bad on the show because it most likely isn’t relevant to the game their playing. In my opinion, I think the chat should be show-oriented to support the show for people who haven’t seen it before. Now, a small outburst from time to time is understandable, I mean we’re all human right?
Anyhow, I welcome any arguments. Not that I like to argue (Only sometimes), I just want to see people’s respected opinions.
April 28, 2012 at 10:16 am #27054i haven’t seen anything like this on the shows recently
and it seems that the chat will chat incessantly about anything not just poniesApril 28, 2012 at 10:21 am #27055I guess it all comes down to keeping discussion related to the stream.
April 28, 2012 at 10:31 am #27056Exactly. Best way I can see people handling this is to discourage any and all off-topic conversation during the show. Not just ponies. That’s the whole point.
April 28, 2012 at 3:41 pm #27114it just seems that some people over-reacted when ponies were mentioned. it’s just plain rude telling people to “shut the fuck up” in caps as the first warning like that. they should of had the common courtesy to ask people to politely to stop.

But, like I said, not the first warning: it was a problem earlier that night, and some people seemed to be bringing it up just to troll.
April 28, 2012 at 9:08 pm #27166It just seems like whenever ponies are mentioned, it brings trouble. Either from bronies jumping on memes or the brony haters who have an immediate and violent knee-jerk reaction. Out of all the topics in the world, I think we can just avoid this one.
April 28, 2012 at 11:09 pm #27181I’m a huge bronie, and bronie talk on the stream bugs the hell out of me.
there are way to many obnoxious bronies out there.its best to keep the bronie talk completely out of the show
to avoid flame wars. its harsh but what can you do.
MLP is a big thing on the internet right now. once it dies
it won’t be so bad.but for future reference to all turbo’s/non
if someone is mentions bronies
just simply tell them no bronie talk
or to stop. if they keep obnoxiously going on.
