Hey, guys.
As those who read the Mod Report or have been hearing word around the community, we are opening New Hub up to above-ground portals. This thread is to explain the system we’re going to use, and open up for people to request them.
So here’s how portals are going to work:
Underground Portals
Underground portals cost 2,000PP. Anyone who provides this can get a portal. Of course, this is contingent on the community or build following the server’s rules.
An underground portal must be established before an above-ground portal can be obtained.
Above-Ground Portals for Communities
Above-ground portals for communities will necessitate a below-ground portal be already built, and cost an additional 2,000PP. If the community is not considered of good quality, the application for an above-ground portal will be outright rejected. However, if it is of good quality, mods will review the community and come to a consensus on discounts that can be given. These discounts will be based on a number of factors, such as number of active members, aesthetics, and scope. On the completion of our review, you will be told whether you have qualified for a portal and the price required.
Above-Ground Portals for Personal Builds
Above-ground portals for personal builds (places that are built to be visited and ooh’ed and ahh’ed at rather than a place for people to live), necessitate a below-ground portal be already built, and cost an additional 1,000PP to start with. The same judging process will be given as with communities.
The Portal Structures
Community portals will be placed on the yellow road. Personal build portals will be placed on the red road.
The mods feel that Hub is an important part of the server, and that it should be treated like a build challenge to keep it looking up to snuff. Before the community or user builds their portal in hub, the design must be run past the mods. If they do not feel the design is of good quality, they can reject it. If they okay the design, but the execution of the idea comes out of bad quality, the community or user will have to rebuild it. If they are told to rebuild, and the structure is not torn down, the mods will tear it down and the materials will not be refunded. If a structure that was not approved is built, it will be removed by the mods and the materials not refunded.
We hope this will keep hub looking beautiful and up to the quality we want to represent our server.
And that’s really what this is all about: quality. Things that are of good quality and that we want to be presented to the public and possibly get seen on the show will be given more of an opportunity. So try your best in everything you do and you will be rewarded.
Now, we open this thread for people to submit for portals. Describe your community to us and why you want an above-ground portal and we’ll get to workin’ on it.
May 17, 2012 at 11:34 pm #31255ME! I’m making historia. A pseudo community, where I’m the only member so far, though Keltic Angel has a house there. I’m making large historical recreations, with the current being the roman colliseum, at 1 to 1 scale. 4 mods in a row that have seen it in it’s ‘production’ state have said some variation of ‘holy sh**’ and i’ve been assured by a dozen people that I’m insane, which makes me a great candidate for an above ground portal :D
Actually, screw it, historia’s a personal build.

May 17, 2012 at 11:36 pm #31256The Edge would love an above ground portal. We have about 40 members, and about 30 or so are active. The Edge covers a huge area, with quality buildings, and is a great community to visit. An above ground portal would help visitors (and existing members) access The Edge easier. We also hope to have Fraser one day tour our community.
Edit Add: Also we have lot of everyday visitors that would benefit from above ground portal, namely for the sheep pen.

May 17, 2012 at 11:54 pm #31257Tortuga would like an above ground portal. We have about 15 members. We were one of the first communities and are still active. Most of the server has visited Tortuga including many of the mods. We await your response and thank you for your consideration.

May 18, 2012 at 1:43 am #31261QUESTION: if portals move above ground, do their below ground frames become available for people who have their portals deeper to move into?
May 18, 2012 at 2:29 am #31262Epsilon has around 10 16 active members, depending on what you consider active. But I have seen all 10 16 of them in the community in the last 10 days due to own free will. The community is run by me and Azurillkirby. I already personally have enough pp, but if fellow Epsilonians (or even visitors) would donate to to the chest I placed near our portal, I’d be glad. Epsilon is frequently visited by people from other communities, and we’re planning some sort of friendly war with the edge. The attractions in Epsilon include a big bunch of sprite art by GhostxDragon and Boltfox20, Scrooge McDuck’s unfinished money bin, the server’s original Phoenix Wright Courthouse, Murder City, which can be travelled to with our highly developed rail system, which will probably soon have an above-clouds counterpart, the Epsilon Quiz room with the magnificent redstone work of KRSD, The Smash Bros. Melee Final Destination, the muppet theater and more. The only major complaint we get in epsilon, is that we’re not good enough at lighting, which i can agree with, but i think it’s getting better.

May 18, 2012 at 5:40 am #31266Shin Shiro (New White) is a community built by Old Shiro members. We have new blood in our ranks too but the community consists of 9-10 members which atleast 5 to my knowledge are active in the community and few others have gone to other projects. Shiro holds it to a very strict quality but as I see it I’ve only once had to raise my criticism towards a project and even then I was wrong. More members are always welcome and we definitely have the amount needed to pay for an above-ground portal.

I’m submitting an application for Oasis community we’re a rather small community, but I think an aboveground portal will bring more traffic in. We have 2 provinces, Hamilport and Skywalk, and a third in the planning phase. We have about 10 members total with only 5 or 6 being active. Community leaders are Me, Larmo_the_Weird, Hamilton6787, and Sithlordsolid. Thanks for reading!May 24, 2012 at 9:17 am #32765Historia is REJECTED for a portal. A PM will be sent with a few tips on ways you can improve and hopefully qualify for a portal in the future. You can submit again June 24th.
