Here’s today’s two sprites that I’ve worked on. I think this doing two a day thing has made me rather productive! Haha.
2 Sprites of Thomas Feist, a witness in Case 1.
How am I doing guys? Do the poses and such look alright to you?

So here’s another sheet of more character designs/revisions!
EDIT: I managed to find my music making program CD (Reason 4) and reinstalled it on my laptop, I can potentially make some music for the game! I did some playing around, its been a year since I last made music with it. This is what I managed to do in 2 hours. What do we think?

But when I did come back to the laptop, I thought I’d try out and see what the sprites look like in the game engine! I coded in a looping camera pan between the characters and thought it worked quite well. I think I might add that into the game, the camera panning to whoever is talking!

July 22, 2012 at 8:30 am #44402Some two new sprites today! Hurrah!
2 Sprites of Theodore Butcher, witness in Case 1.
At this point, I only have to do 2 more poses for Michael Howard then I can start working on the culprit’s sprites (which won’t be shown here for obvious spoilers) the backgrounds and editing the previous sprites to allow for talking and blinking.
That and also continue designing potential poses for Nick and Lily.

But I will show you character sketches for later cases!

3 sprites of Michael Howard.
I need to finish one more of the culprit’s poses, Nick and Lily’s poses and then I can focus on the backgrounds and cut-scene pictures.

As someone who is hoping to get into amateur game design when I have a little more free time (and maybe make a career out of it if I don’t just go into regular software engineering), this process is super interesting to me. Keep up the good work, and keep bringing the updates.

Hopefully the game won’t be disappointing when it’s finished. I’m debating about making the first case playable and releasing it only on the forums to see whether I should continue or not X3
As for updates today, I’ve spent most of it making notes for the plot layout of case 3. It’ll be a much more point and click and investigate case than the first one.
July 28, 2012 at 1:56 pm #45374I would definitely like to see this game become a thing. If you release the first case as a beta test of sorts, I will play it and give a full review about how it could improve and other such things.
July 30, 2012 at 10:05 am #45651Updates for today!
Got a few sketches done of potential Nick and Lily poses, nothing completely solid yet.
Doodled out some very rough ideas for ‘cut-scene’ pictures.
Finally figured out a potential plot line for case 3 and have began laying things out! (Case 3 has been stumping me for a good few weeks now)
Currently writing the first draft of the second case, about 20% through.July 30, 2012 at 1:06 pm #45670just checking in after a while and the character designs are looking great not sure how I feel about the music yet becuase I’m not sure where it would fit, but it still sounds good
August 2, 2012 at 1:30 pm #46157Today’s update! No drawing updates lately I’m afraid, I’ve been trying to get the story in my head put down into a document!
Revised what I had wrote for Case 2, added some more dialogue to it
Planned out roughly half of case 3.
Also worth noting… When I go back into University in September, my updates will be less frequent. I’ll try to make them maybe once or twice a week. Back in Uni, I should also get a big help with the coding so there is that to consider! Haha.
August 5, 2012 at 8:02 am #46512Hey everyone! I’ve been working more on the game’s story line and it’s starting to come together more thematically. I’ve got a fairly solid plan of what I want case two to be (I’ve been going over what I’ve been writing in it so far and been changing a few bits of dialogue) and case 3′s plot is still slowly being built.
I will apologise that for at least the next week, there won’t be any updates due to going on holiday. I will take a notebook with me so I can jot down ideas so I don’t forget them for when I get back.
I would like to say though, thank you all for the support and general interest you’ve been expressing to me here. I just hope my first game will be a good one! If it isn’t, I can at least take the experience I’d have gained from making this into making a better game :D
August 14, 2012 at 12:34 pm #47821Hello everyone! Here’s the newest update…
I’m back from holiday! So I can now continue to work on the game. I thought of some nice ideas, both for story and visual, so I felt like it was a week off well spent!
August 19, 2012 at 1:59 pm #48710Hey everyone, it’s time for another update!
I’ve developed a few sketches for cut scenes (not going to show them as they are later in the story ideas)
I’ve worked on the Case 2 story dialogue some more and I’ve thought of more of the story layout to Case 3 (Case 3 is more exploration heavy compared to Case 1 and 2)Today I visited Colwyn Bay (Wales) and I decided to bring my camera along to take photos of any architecture or anything that could be used for things like backgrounds. I came across a very derelict pier, closed off from public. I quite liked how it looked so worn down and rather sinister looking. It made me feel that it could be used as a gang hideout or something to that effect.
So I thought… Why not be inspired by it and have a location like that in my game? Here’s a few pictures of the place. With adding a derelict pier into my game, I think that’ll give the city the characters are in a bit more character, a seaside city!
