Hi,
just a heads up, we have changed the first chat rule to be
No sexist, racist, or hate speech allowed. Also don’t make rape jokes or use the word in an inflationary manner.
Please respect this decision and also keep in mind that just because Fraser or the rest of the crew does something it doesn’t mean you should. We all know them to an extend, but people might not know you. This also doesn’t mean you can’t use the word in context anymore.
Thanks,
kshade

July 16, 2012 at 10:15 pm #43269…what does inflationary mean?

…what does inflationary mean?Using it for all kinds of stuff, taking away from its original meaning. Like how some people use it as a replacement for “pwn’d” or whatever. Or like “epic” became almost meaningless on the internet.
July 17, 2012 at 12:01 am #43280Thank you for the clarification.

So we just need to calm down on the vulgarity? That’s possible I suppose. But when Fraser brings up Dolphin rape it’s hard not to join in on the conversation. Time to practice restraint. v_v
At least what I say isn’t viewed on the show xD (It’s a joke, I know the rules still apply to me lol)
July 17, 2012 at 12:48 am #43293It’s not really a problem with being vulgar, it’s more about not watering down the meaning of that word by casually inserting it into everyday conversations. If you’d like to know a bit more I’d suggest reading this potentially disturbing article.
That said, you can still use the word but only to describe actual rape and not for the sole purpose of telling a joke. In other words, there will be very little reason to use it in chat since the subject usually won’t come up in gaming.
July 17, 2012 at 1:29 am #43298I’m floored in a good way by this decision. Don’t want to write a novel but really, I’m beyond impressed by the decision to add this to the list of rules. The article Kshade linked speaks volumes more than anything I could say on the topic.
July 17, 2012 at 2:52 am #43303I’m seriously so, SO happy about this. Thank you to everyone involved who came to this decision and I applaud you for taking action on this issue XD

July 17, 2012 at 6:17 am #43315Out of curiosity when someone gets a ban (temporary or permanent) are they informed why in a good way?
July 17, 2012 at 6:19 am #43316For actual bans you will be informed why and for how long, yes. We won’t write you a message if you get timed out though. Some days that would just be too much work with all the allcaps rage going on, and usually it’s really quite obvious why it happened if you take a look at the rules and the last few things you wrote.
July 17, 2012 at 7:02 am #43326I guess Daniel Tosh won’t be participating in the chat anymore then.
But seriously, I’m happy it was added; but at the same time sad that it had to be.
EDIT: That was an intense article you linked, one can only hope it will have some sort of positive effect.

July 17, 2012 at 7:52 am #43340Don’t get me wrong Kshade, I completely understand what it must be like trying to keep the chat in check during a show and I understand that it’s not practically possible to explain to everyone why they get TO’d. I’m just worried that some people won’t get the message you know, people in general are not known to go out of their way to learn the rules : /
July 17, 2012 at 8:05 am #43345Yeah, some people won’t learn until they get tempbanned. Franky, that’s their problem. The rules link is even in the timeout message.
