I just started playing this the other day. It’s a HUGE (225km^2) persistent world, up to 50 players (maybe more) at a time, zombie survival mod for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. Generally you have very limited ammo, and surviving alone is quite difficult. Grouping up with other people doesn’t always work either, as they may just shoot you to take your items for their own survival.
If anyone out there has Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead this is a very fun mod. Even for you people who don’t have it, I’d still take a look.
May 20, 2012 at 4:17 am #31733I watched a video of it, where a group of people arsed around in it during the ingame night. It was amazingly amusing to watch.
May 20, 2012 at 9:10 am #31768Playing at night is damn hard. It’s almost 100% black, unless you have a flashlight, chemlight, or flare. Even then with those you’re more likely to alert the attention of zombies and bandits.
Most servers are real-time as well. Being light out when it would actually be in that specific timezone.

I watched these videos a few days ago and it certainly got me interested. Running zombies, friendly fire, the trust factor, YOLO – it’s not your ordinary zombie game.

Seriously, even though the zombie genre is mostly played out, this looks like a good kick to the balls for the genre. I was reading on Cracked about how the ideal zombie game would be a post-apocalypse, small town full-survival game. If they made the mod a little more out of the zombie survival guide, complete with improvised weapons and defenses and foraging for food, and it could be spectacular. Is there a wiki for this? I want to read more.
May 20, 2012 at 2:22 pm #31816I wish I could run Arma just to play stuff like this
May 20, 2012 at 6:17 pm #31856I just found a wiki for this game and it looks great so far. The inclusion of bandits and a trust system certainly make this game feel more authentic, as well as the resource gathering. My one complaint is the lack of melee weapons; if you ran out of bullets in a zombie apocalypse, surely you would pick up some kind of improvised weapon to defend yourself. Anything from a Frying pan to a baseball bat.
Whatever, it still seems awesome. And apparently its still in Alpha, so there may be room for improvement in the future.
May 20, 2012 at 8:54 pm #31889oh man this looks awesome, it looks like the zombie game i’ve always wanted to be made.
May 20, 2012 at 10:13 pm #31906This should be a turbo game; best chance for survival is to group up with people you trust. And we’re all buddies, right? …right?
Too bad I can’t play Arma, it’s games and mods like this that really make me wish I got a gaming PC.
May 21, 2012 at 12:22 am #31918If anyone out there has Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and wants to play, post here we could try to group up.
butsukoy: Running zombies, friendly fire, the trust factor, YOLO
You DO respawn when you die, but with the massive world, good luck finding your way back to your group with only the starting items.
May 23, 2012 at 11:44 am #32590and chem light bad…no chem light.
May 23, 2012 at 1:46 pm #32618The problem lies is that it requires Arma 2 and Arma 2 arrowhead. And I dislike the Arma games because it uses to many buttons and is to realistic for my taste. A realistic zombie game intrigues me, and army one not so much.
May 23, 2012 at 3:55 pm #32655Technically you only need arrowhead and can download the free version of Arma 2. At least, that’s what I read.
May 23, 2012 at 7:00 pm #32690I saw Northernlion play this and it looks awesome. I do however find the bandit/trust mechanic to be stupid and unrealistic. If you were in a legit zombie apocalypse what dumbass would willingly signify to anyone else ‘I will stab you in the back’ if you were a bandit you would try to make yourself look trustworthy. also the melee weapons thing is another fault at trying to be realistic, otherwise this is awesome.
