– video won’t embed sorry people

Sometimes I get so frustrated at the VGA chat as well as gaming culture in general when people are getting outraged because a female character’s boobs are too small (aka, a normal size that don’t defy the laws of gravity) or their clothing isn’t revealing enough.

I CAN’T @ some of you sometimes >:(

That was a great episode of The Big Picture. Though I can’t say I’ve seen things like this happen within this community. Most if not all instances are used ironically with the full knowledge that it’s not okay. If and when it does happen seriously within our community, I guarantee that it’s looked down upon fiercely. I see our community as one of kindness and tolerance with a fun and lighthearted attitude being the ultimate goal. I hope we can keep it that way.

I don’t think that coach on the reality show ever consorted with another person before. If he did, he would know how to properly talk and compete with them properly.

I’ve literally never seen anyone seriously outraged about lack of skin or size of assets in video games. Just remember the internet doesn’t convey sarcasm well.

Nothing wrong with some skin, its not like they have feelings. Soon you start asking for videogame charecters right to vote?

But I have to admit, most female outfits in fighting games are just stupid.

I personally don’t care at all, I don’t play games for boobs.

I’m not sure I’ve seen many instances of people being annoyed by lack of skin, and certainly not in this community. There are times when people say that games show too much skin and that the women are hyper-sexualised, is this what you mean?

Edit: If you do mean people are getting angry over females being under-sexualised, then surely this thread was brought up by a specific event as it seems odd to make it so randomly?

Last night when people were complaining about Lara’s lack of boobage, I’m pretty sure they were being sarcastic. Lots of people don’t take the old Tomb Raider games that seriously. Besides, Fraser brings out the infantile, pervy manchild in all of us. Even the women.

Eh…the gaming world is still aimed mostly at dudes. Can’t comment on the chat, but I don’t remember ever being offended by the show itself and I imagine the chat is mostly picking up cues from the show. Plus there’s Becky…kinda hard to be offended when Becky is sometimes the most perverted of the bunch. XD

^THIS.

There was actually a similar controversy on the Blistered Thumbs page for the Fez episode. A guy was complaining that Becky’s Fez boobs were Fraser’s attempt at sexist advertising, when Becky came on and told him it was her idea all along. It’s hard to be offended when Becky’s the one leading the charge.

^ I laughed quite a bit about this. I’m gonna have to go look up that comment.

Anyway, yeah, some gamers be sexist. I find the best way to deal with this is to laugh at them: http://fatuglyorslutty.com/ ^^

Misogyny still runs rampant in many games and it’s a problem, I even like some of them such as Catherine which has very questionable sexual politics at the best of times. I try to take it with a sense of irony and I think that’s what the gang does on the show and when things go too far to take it as ironic in any way they get angry about it, for example the God of War 3 episode where Kratos was throwing around that topless woman, Fraser, Ben and Becky were genuinely pissed off as was the chat.

I completely get why you’d be upset about that Boourns and if people were genuinely saying such things without any irony in the chat then that’s a damn shame and a blight on this community, that said I think irony is a very hard thing to convey through text unless you already know the person saying stuff very well and I think our community is generally intelligent enough to know that a genuinely sexist attitude is not acceptable in any way.

As far as the Tomb Raider thing goes, I think it’s possible people were being serious. It is a character feature, however silly and ridiculous it may be. To outright change that could be perceived as pandering in the opposite direction.
Of course that’s ridiculous for many reasons the least of which being that she is significantly younger in this game.

But yea, I don’t think it’s good practice to accuse the chat of being sexist without providing the video. If you just wanted to start a topic about sexism in games then fine, but don’t start of by saying that we need to “Educate Ourselfs” without any proof.

Don’t act as though there are no male stereotypes in gaming as well.
