What are your favorite video game cliches? Or least favorite? I love the Rockstar cliche of an anti-hero for their protaginist. But i hate the cliche at the end of the video games that leaves an opening for sequels.
June 1, 2012 at 12:31 pm #34422Every game has crates. Even Pong and Pacman.

June 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm #34440i love the cliche Japaneses shonen heroes i don’t care what frash frash or anyone thinks I love my pretty boys with cool looking clothes and hair. Yes that includes Raiden (and I mean pre-4 Raiden)

June 2, 2012 at 1:03 pm #34645The red barrels which will always – ALWAYS – explode when shot, run over, punched, or in any way mishandled. What the fuck do people keep in them things, anyway?

June 3, 2012 at 9:51 am #34833The fact that, in most sequels you wind up having to work your way up from the bottom again. What the hell happens in between games?
Oh and also the fact that no NPCs in any rpg are capable of doing even the most simple task for themselves…

June 3, 2012 at 6:08 pm #34986I don’t know if this is a cliche but fetch quests….all the goddamn time….and I mean when they are part of the main quest….frigging A!
Talk to “that guy” first to know where to go but before you need to help him with something. Accept if you want to continue the game and proceed to said destination with “that guy”, turns out someone betrayed “that guy” and you feel the need to help with something to plan a revenge that you didn’t even accept yet. Go fetch an item/info from “a dude”/”some place” alone because “that guy” would be doing something “important”. Of course, fetching the info or item won’t be as easy as you think but at this point you don’t give a flying one and just want to be done with this. After being a nice puppy and returning the info/item to “that guy”, start the revenge plan, at the end, either “that guy” will die or become your friend….
Now this….this happens in a lot of Rockstar games….
