My favorite series would be the Tales of games, Vesperia/Destiny Remake in particular. Favorite game of all time would probably be The World Ends With You, I pretty much love everything about that game.
May 8, 2012 at 3:05 am #29226Mass Effect, no question about it. I’ve always craved for a great story and characters in any media I get my hands to, but never quite encountered in games before. Combine those with the interactive story, and the fact that my previous number 1 story was in The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (no, I am not kidding), you can believe that my mind was BLOWN after playing Mass Effect. It’s so good of a series that it almost destroyed me, since I was stupid enough to play through it in the middle of my finals…

doncliche’s avatar reminded me (I can’t believe I forgot it the first time round), Max Payne is easily one of my favourite series of all time. The writing and story in those games is astonishingly good and the gameplay matches it for awesomeness, even the GBA port of the first game is brilliant. I’m a little worried about three as it doesn’t have the same writer as the first two but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

May 14, 2012 at 5:51 am #30520My favorite game of all time is Fallout 2.
NOTHING compares to the character writing Black Isle did back then. NEVER have I put so much thought into my decisions in a video game, because you know when you choose poorly it could mean terrible thing for you and people you like. I even count the struggle with the game itself as an experience ^^. You think games are glitchy these days, you should try running an unpatched version of Fallout 2, and rethink your argument. And keep in mind these were the days were you either had to order the patch from the developer or wait for a magazine to pack it on its disc. Fun times were had.
I’m a ittle worried about the future of the franchise though. IMO Fallout 3 was terrible, almost a sacrileg to the franchise. Don’t get me wrong the 1st person and VATS game mechanics are really really well done, and its the perfect way to bring the top down tactical rpg to the modern days. But they got rid of what makes Fallout special. All but for one exception (Rep. of Dave) there was not one intersting/crazy/funny encounter. I couldn’t care less for the people in the capital wasteland. New Vegas did it so much better, which is no wonder cause it was for a big part the team that made FO 2. I really think that on the big scale New Vegas’ story even beats the two originals just because its more grounded and less clichee.
I say let Obsidian handle the writing and Bethesda the programming and the future could hold big things for the Fallout franchise
May 15, 2012 at 1:52 pm #30789Gotta agree with cthuloops85, Black Isle knew how to make games. Maybe that’s why, still to this day, my favourite game of all time is Baldur’s Gate. It has everything I want from games: likeable charakters, entertaining gameplay, good dose of freedom and a story that isn’t generic: You’re the chosen one, go save the world from the big bad guy.
Honorable mentions: Deus Ex, Planescape, Black Moon Chronicles and the Commandos series. -
