Getting the hermit team together for the Olympics

Hey there!

Are you a loner, socially orstrisized, or otherwise community-less? Then consider competing on this team!

If you’re interested, please rank the events (1 highest, 2 next, etc.) that you want to compete in — just one is ok, but try not to go above five for now. Also, we need to figure out which team events we want to do, so include both single and team events.

I’ll go and nab the organizer spot, but if anyone else wants to help, please do! (I’m also working on the video).
There’s a good amount to decide on, so we’ll do a vote. I’ll separate the main points to allow for easier referral in discussion and voting. Please put your official vote in bold and things you have to say in… not bold. Also, feel free to edit your votes, I’ll be sure to check the thread regularly.

A) We have to decide how to represent a team which is essentially a conglomeration of random people. Since Still Random is its own community, I suggest we go the opposite direction and be exceedingly plain. Our flag could be nothing, or glass (to acutally have something), or our flag and our outfits could be all black or all white. I vote Black or Brown to avoid confusion with a certain group.

B) The name. I vote The Hermitage

C) The Anthem. So Ronrey (See following post)

D) The preview video. (This is less vote-y, more discuss-y) My initial idea is to do a progression past completely empty countryside for the majority, and at the end revealing a house, completely in isolation. Again, to avoid comparison with Still Random I don’t know how well a mashup of everyone’s place would work.

E) The Olympic Village building. A similar dilemma to the flag and the video, I’m not sure what kind of building would work. Maybe something that allows us each to have a separate space? Sort of like those capsule hotel rooms? Or maybe a sign saying that we moved our building away from all of the other ones? We aren’t true hermits/antisocial because we play multiplayer, but to have it seem like a team we might need to exaggerate a little. Discuss.

As for video, depends on how artistic. It would be really cool to have a close up on the front of whatever you consider your house to be. The shots would basic go with the first person’s house, a sign showing who they are next to the door. The person opens the door, walks out a few steps, equips a bow and fires off camera. The next shot shows an arrow hitting the sign of the next guy’s house, and they come out and fire, etc etc etc, until the final team member, shown out in their farm or mining, or what have you gets shot in the back (not fatally) and turns to the camera, with the and then fades to ‘the hermitage’

Also, we should play it up that we’re the under dogs here. IE: have our uniforms look dirty/ratty, either black or white will do, just have spots of great and your skin’s skin color in random spots to show holes and tears.

The olympic building should be a dirt hovel with a wooden door, a hole in the roof, a ‘window’ that’s an irregularly shaped hole with some fencing put in, etc.

Really play up the sympathy card ;)

@Luckysimon- Hahaha- the scruffy hermit type is really tempting- it would go with a tattered or holey flag then, huh? And maybe if the building is dirt, the flag could be as well, and the uniforms brown with patches of the normal skin showing through, like you said.
I really like the LotR trumpet alarm chain variation idea. Maybe to mix it up there could be multiple forms of passing on- i.e. minecart, fire charge, etc.
And the song is perfect.

hey guys i guess im on team hermit! a suggestion on the skins why don’t we use the original steve skin an just change the face, possibly the shirt colour to?

I’m a hermit with friends. Hermit’s United meeting. We get together every ten years or so, swap stories about caves, it’s good fun!

I’m a man with no country and would like to join. I’d like to be a marathon runner. I like the dullness of the all dirt flag.

Video update: I’ll try to snag ppl when we’re both on, but please put general times you’d be available for filming. If you have/ want to get fraps you can include some first-person shots, but otherwise I’ll be the camera man. I’m moving to carry out luckysimon’s idea both because it’ll include and connect everyone. How it will work is I’ll come to your house or we’ll mock one up for you, deliver the previous’ person’s form of communication to you, and then show you sending your “message” to the next person. The possibilities are: shooting an arrow, riding a minecart, sending off a carrier chicken, shooting a fire charge (anyone have those?), using an ender eye, shooting off a tnt cannon, basically anything that could cover a lot of distance. If you have any preference please feel free to say so, or submit your own idea!
