We have introduced a new plugin on the TF2 server which allows users to have one key for all talk and another for team talk. This means players will be able to talk strategy with there team mates without the other team hearing, but still have the fun of general chat in the server with everyone. We encourage everyone to use the new team talk option to help have more competitive games especially in tournaments.
Instructions
1. First, go into “My Computer” select your hard drive and find your Steam folder (for example mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam )
2. Once in your Steam folder go to the following directory : \SteamApps\YOUR ACCOUNT\team fortress 2\tf\cfg
3. Download the file attached to this post, unzip it (with winrar or 7-zip) and place it in the folder.
4. Open autoexec.cfg using a text editor (notepad for instance) and replace “TEAM TALK KEY” & “ALL TALK KEY” to a key of your choice.
5. Save the file (making sure it saves as a .cfg file and not .txt)
6. Go play enjoy TF2!-Mikey McMuffin

January 18, 2012 at 9:00 pm #8534A bit of a warning here to everyone.
Please Remember that all “letter key” are bind to do something
Ex. letter B as a Spy will put on your last disguise.
If you are uncertain on which key does what here the Tf2 Wiki script which will tell you what letter does what.January 18, 2012 at 9:02 pm #8535Protip: Bind to MOUSE3 to use the middle mouse button! (MOUSE4 and MOUSE5 work too, if you have thumb buttons)
January 18, 2012 at 9:05 pm #8537I’m on a Mac and this is what I get when I open it with textedit
alias “+doTeamTalk” “+teamtalk; +voicerecord”
alias “+doNormalTalk” “-teamtalk; +voicerecord”
alias “-doNormalTalk” “-voicerecord”
alias “-doTeamTalk” “-voicerecord”
bind “ALL TALK KEY” “+doNormalTalk”
bind “TEAM TALK KEY” “+doTeamTalk”What do I change?
January 18, 2012 at 9:06 pm #8538Read the instructions again. You change the same things as you would in Windows.
January 18, 2012 at 9:10 pm #85415two: What do I change?
You do the same as on windows. It doesn’t matter. As said:
mikeymcmuffin: 4. Open autoexec.cfg using a text editor (notepad for instance) and replace “TEAM TALK KEY” & “ALL TALK KEY” to a key of your choice
January 18, 2012 at 11:17 pm #8563erase “Team Talk Key” to a key of your choosing, preferably one that doesn’t do something else already.
P.S-Awesome plugin Mikey, seems to work great, although I’ve seemed to have gotten a weird beep on both voice chats, each distinctive… There’s no real issue, it’s just strange
January 18, 2012 at 11:22 pm #8564You need to change both binds, even if you just bind one of them to v. Otherwise it will not work.
January 19, 2012 at 8:54 am #8594Also guys dont give me credits. I found the plugin, kshade (with a contribution from otter) actually edited the code to make it work with 2 binds (rather then a toggle switch). Give them kudos.
January 19, 2012 at 10:30 am #8607Well then…koodooze to the Mods =P
January 19, 2012 at 4:52 pm #8639do you HAVE to use it to play on the server?
January 19, 2012 at 4:53 pm #8640dgodfrey11:
do you HAVE to use it to play on the server? No, but if you don’t you won’t be able to speak to your team only.
January 20, 2012 at 10:11 am #8708thx for the quick answer kshade.
January 20, 2012 at 1:31 pm #8729The weird “bleep sounds” when you use the talk keys is now been taken away because some found it annoying. :3
