Sorry guys, I just can’t find this game fun anymore. I picked it back up to play on this server after a hiatus shortly after the original engie update. I didn’t have time for it, but once this server picked it up I figured I’d give it another shot and it was fun…for a while.

However, the game has become more aggravation and annoyance than fun and I really can’t bother playing anymore. It started, first and foremost, with the dead ringer. This weapon is frankly cheap as hell, and as Dusk showed me in a 1v1, essentially gives a spy infinite lives. It used to be they had to wait for the cloak to go away, but somehow he was able to ‘die’ decloak immediately, fire at me, and then die again and repeat the process, all in the time it took for me to fire, reload, and fire again with the flare gun. How exactly is that fair? That wasn’t the first time the weapon annoyed me, it was just the first time I had verifiable evidence that the weapon is the most over powered thing in the game. I don’t mind feigning death, I used to use that ability like crazy in tf and tf classic, but that took skill and strategy. The dead ringer takes button mashing or simple scripting to spam.

But that was just where it started. I love playing the engy, and I try to support the team as much as possible. Teleporters and dispensors used to be my priority before even getting the gun up so that I could help the team. That all but completely stopped after two weeks of play when it became painfully obvious that it was never being reciprocated. That is usually the danger of the engie. Your used and usually left to die as the other push forward, that’s fine, that’s acceptable. However, I started to notice that when I was being attacked that there would be team mates not only in the area of my nest being attacked, but that they were just standing there watching. They weren’t moving, except maybe to avoid enemy fire, but even when they could see me being attacked and the people attacking, they were doing nothing to help.

That culminated tonight. I had neko as a scout shooting at me, a soldier in the same spot shooting at me, a pyro shooting at me from down a hallway and a spy just firing his gun, not bothering to cloak or disquise. I could clearly see a sniper, with his rifle out but not aiming, who walked right past my attack, looked arround and then ran off. A heavy, who had a clear shot on the spy and the pyro, sitting on the point watching, and a pyro that did the same thing as the sniper. I was able to keep my sentry up until the match ended by healing myself and my stuff with a well placed dispensor, but frankly, I can’t take this crap any more. I don’t know if my team mates were simply waiting to see how long I would last or what, but I honestly don’t care.

This crap has gone on too long, too often, and almost every time I’ve played. The fun of Team Fortress 2 is gone for me, and considering I’ve been playing since the original quake version LAUNCHED, that’s quite a feat. So have fun guys, but you won’t be seeing me in there any more.

That’s why I like spy, you don’t have to depend on teammates.
Engineer is fun, but until I find the right areas to create my building it’s going to get destroyed in seconds…

A fake death does not mean invincibility, so if they put out the fire, keep on burning them…
A pyro needs to learn that just because they see a spy die, does not mean they are dead.

first off all, if you havent played spy for atleast a reaasonable amount of time, you probly wouldnt understand why the dead rinegr is not OP. Though i know many are ready to contest me on this, Though i will never give in! :3

I know this probly wont change your mind but i would like to sort of point this out, when you see people “not helpin” it might be because they either think you got it, they dont notice your under attack, or they arnt as skilled as you. This server is one for people of all skill levels, people who just started and people “who have been playin since quake” ;3 The best thing would be to try and tell your team when your in such a situation to help you.

And i dont know when you normally play but ive heard of this kind of stuff, Yet ive never been in a Vga game where it happened D:

Okay, a bit of a harsh intro, but I think it’s something that you have to hear. Sometimes, you simply have to deal with it. There many things, many many things that can annoy players, and you’ll find that a weapon that annoys one player will not annoy another. I believe you don’t quite know how the Dead Ringer functions, because button mashing nor scripts will give you any special advantage when using it. Also, the dead ringer does not recharge quickly enough where Dusk can immediately feign death after decloaking, you are describing a scenario that you likely wouldn’t find in a game involving more than 2 players. I think you need a bit more research into this weapon and understand what you can do to counter act it before immediately crying “overpowered”.

Secondly, if you’re having issues or need help in the game, you have to let your teammates know. Use the chat function or even quickly press c and then 1 to have your engineer call for help. From what I witnessed the players surrounding you had more pertinent issues to deal with, such as somebody shooting at them. Nobody was simply standing off the the side and watching you flounder. As you also stated, you managed to keep everything running all the way to the end, even if barely just so. To an onlooker that appears that you’re doing fine by yourself and they are free to capture points and whatnot. This is TEAM fortress, communicate to us if you need help.

Of course, your teammates, myself included, received absolutely no indication that you were frustrated or in need of help until the end of the map in which you rage quit after causing a scene and being quite a drama queen if I do say so myself. Frankly I don’t believe one bad game is substantial enough to go on “an indefinite hiatus”, I would suggest sticking around for a bit longer and seeing if you can’t overcome these new obstacles that you are finding.

We are all meanie faces who just wanted to watch you die, eh?

And if a spoo knows where ammo thingies are, they can get lots of Dead Ringers in a shorter amount of time.

Aparently I need to clarify a few things.

First, the reason for this post: I spent 3 months ‘taking a break’ from TF2 because of the problems I’ve been having with the game. I figured that if I stepped away I could let the annoyances die down and hopefully start having fun. During that time I would receive, roughly twice a week, messages from other turbos asking me to play. These were not the group wide invites, these were actual messages from some people I’ve played with. I made this post because I’d rather not have to deal with as many of those messages, explaining things over and over.

This post was not a ‘cry for attention’ that some of you are aparently thinking it is, but rather a way for me to hopefully avoid getting messages like that again. I appreciate the invites to things, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a waste of time now to invite me to a game I won’t be playing anymore.

To wimpzilla, quiting the game is how I am ‘dealing with it’. You can shit or get off the pot and I’m choosing to get off the pot. I’m not sure if this offended you or what not to cause you to post that gif, but whatever floats your boat.

As to the deadringer, I’ve used it. After last night’s I have 3 now. I don’t use them because they are cheap, and considering several highlander tournements have out right banned them, I know I’m not alone in that perspective. Hell, mix the dead ringer and the icicle in a half competent spys hands and they might as well have god mode on. I asked dusk how he was doing what he was doing and instead of answering me he disconnected. However, that wasn’t the first time (hell, it wasn’t the 20th time) that the dead ringer was just too overbearing to deal with as an engie on top of the ‘teammates hanging you out to dry aspect’. I emptied a sentry’s machine gun ammo into a room once where a spy dead ringered twice and was still able to back stab me and sap my stuff. So yeah, it is over powered in mine, and quite a few other’s perspective. There’s a reason that Valve has updated the weapon two dozen times to try and rebalance it.

As for the team member thing, the ‘help’ call is actually bound to my c key and I used it at least a dozen times during last night’s play. In the example I mentioned, I was using it for the second time on nucleous when they pyro just ran past me. Considering that my gun was set up just out side of spawn, what enemies were firing on him or what more pressing matter was he dealing with exactly? He ended up taking the one path that wouldn’t have lead to someone attacking my gun. Every other route had someone there.

Also, to the ‘think you have it’, if the aforementioned two yells for help were not enough, it was the fact that the heavy (I was looking right at him while repairing) could clearly see that my sentry wasn’t firing at anything, yet was being attacked with rockets and flares. I’ll forgive not seeing the spy’s shots, but the other two are kinda hard to miss. The only two answers for that are either inexperienced or simply didn’t care.

As for my making a scene, I wish you could go back and check the chat logs. On multiple occaisions I asked for help, said when my team was out and out abandoning me, etc, and I even said at the start of nucleous that it was my last game if things didn’t change. So don’t act like my ‘rage quit’ was sudden and a drama queen moment. I made it very clear what was happening long before the conclusion.

You and everyone else received multiple indicators that I needed help and that I was frustrated. You just couldn’t be bothered to look, and that is exactly my problem with this game now. I play a game called ‘team’ fortress because I like working as a team. Hell, it’s why I like left4dead and left4dead2. The few instances of team work on the server that I have seen are excellent and fun as hell. But they are too few and far between for me to have fun with the game anymore.

So, to put it bluntly, I’m ‘dealing with it’ by not playing it anymore.

Dead ringer is not overpowered, it rarely tricks me because its so loud.

It hurts to see when i’m dead and people don’t help team engies, that should be clear thing to everyone. I always help my engie buddy.

it sucks that your teammates did not help you because of whatever reasons, but you could have gotten on voice chat or at least type out the simple 2 words that stop that: “Help Me”

I personally stay with the engi as a pyro just to scare away spies.

What amazes me is no one else seems to have this problem.

Also, if this isn’t a “cry for attention”, as you claim it isn’t, and you just want to avoid the private messages inviting you to play, then why did you make long public posts to address them when you are clearly dead-set in your decision to quit and discussing it publicly won’t change anything, and why did you refer to this topic in your post in this topic?

You may claim this isn’t a “cry for attention”, but your actions suggest otherwise.

Okay, guys, this thread looks like it’s heading in some pretty hostile and uncivil places. Keep it to friendly goodbyes or reasonable debate about tf2 strategy or let it drop. I’d much rather you all choose to keep a discussion awesome than us having to close it.

Ramrod, read it again. I made a public topic because I get requests from people in the turbo club to play, not just people in my friends list. So it was either this or individually message every member of the steam turbo club to let them know I’m not playing anymore. Which of those two options is less annoying don’t you think?

That post isn’t long by any stretch. Trust me, I’m a journalist and technical writer by trade. If you want me to write a long post illustrating my reasons for leaving TF2, I can.

And I mentioned it in that topic because I was answering the question of that thread honestly. Is there something wrong with that?

When it comes to TF2 and fighting, I’m not really into winning…
I’ll try to win, but unless if I’m in a fighting mood, you won’t see me playing on VGA when it’s active…I usually join it when everyone is done fighting.

I also play on a map where no one wins and no one loses. It’s a dm_mariokartb3 map, where you kill whoever you want, or you just hang out in world 1-2 and play games..or fight to take over 1-2.

Im abit confused by this, threat there is room for this discission sadly you had to make it abit about you insted of lack of team work sometimes on server, dont really think you shueld have quit, playing tf2. There is allways room for improvement in the community, and how we play on the server.

I have sometimes played on the server where i feel like i ended on a team that just didnt seem like cared at all, and we just got steam rolled, other times i been like i didnt care, but we do play to have fun on the server.

Ofc you shueldn’t play if you not having fun, just find it sad the reason for it is something that change from game to game.

and yes my english sucks , Deal with it(:

It sucks to see someone leaving a part of the turbo community, to not be part of something most of us enjoy. I wish we could’ve done better to help you have fun and protect you from incoming fire. I sadly bid farewell to you playing tf2. T-T
