I’ll feel better knowing that others have an appreciation for both VGA and pokemon as well. So what have you done in a pokemon game, what great memories do you have about pokemon? Any good stories to tell? Do you play or know about it’s competitive aspect? I want to know!

I’ll start off. I love Pokemon, so much so that I created a channel with a few friends and began an attempt to review every pokemon family (I put the link to the channel down below if you want it). As for a good story, I went through all of Pearl not realizing that I had a shiny Starly in my box. And finally, I am knowledgeable in terms of the competitive scene.

    That channel I mentioned:

I’ve never owned any kind of DS so my experience with Pokemon ended in Gen III. That being said, it was/is a pretty solid franchise, albeit a tad repetitive.

i love pokemon. ive played through every generation a lot of the times buying both sides. i find the competetive side very intresting and so much fun!

i know that a lot of people dont understannd or are intrested in the competitve side of pokemon but ive found that once people get into it they get addicted. its just pushing past that initial idea of how they precieve pokemon.

Best memory of pokemon? Level 100 shiny snorlax, you have no idea how long it took to catch it, but it was so worth it.

I also play pokemon competitively, though I try to stick to random battles as I find them more interesting. If you haven’t played pokemonshowdown, I highly recommend it for competitive battling.

yup yup yup, love pokemon, but mostly the competitive aspect. i still have fun with the games, though. i bought black 2 last month and played through that, so that’s been pretty fun, plus there are some additions to make competitive training easier, which is always appreciated

a good story from recently would probably be when i swept an entire (decent) team on pokemon online challenge cup with only a karrablast. it was kind of sad, actually.

Love the series, especially the collecting stuff, I’m a sucker for a good collect-a-thon. Best memory is having 6 shiny Pokemon caught from Ruby to Diamond to White version.

Played Gold when I was younger. I just feel that there are more fulfilling RPGs out there, and I just don’t consider it as good as everyone else.

I love Pokemon! My first game was Yellow, and I still have it til this day. I remember first playing it and trying to beat ever single Gym leader with just Pikachu, and I almost succeed too.

Love it but I always bog myself down with catching as many different Pokemon as possible that by the timeto get to the elite 4 I have way too much grinding to do and I give up lol.

pokemons good, the competitve aspect kinda ruined alotta the joy for me.. when gen 1 and 2 games were around very few of us had link cables so battles were usually planned like a week in advance and the battle systems was so simple (or maybe just cos we were younger) that meta tactics wernt around, so everyone just raised there favourites and u rele never knew what someone was gonna do…. my old team used to be something like gengar, scyther, polywrath, aerodactlyle, typhlosion and umbreon……one story thats funny wth hindsight is that haunter is my favourite pokemon and when i first got the game my brother said held trade me one but the only thing he wanted off me was my starter so begrudgeingly i did it….. only for the haunter to evolve

Never had a Gameboy or DS so I don’t know much about them, only played the ones on N64. What I do know is that this right here: http://i.imgur.com/bQaUp.jpg, for the longest effing time, needs to happen.

Every now and then I try to play the newer games. I usually only play up until I beat the elite 4. I usually play both versions, and in each version I try to comprise a new team of pokemon of that generation only. I also do my best to avoid using TMs

That being said I feel like gen 4 (the latest one I’ve played) was the weakest in terms of variety/new pokemon i liked. I really only pick my teams by picking the pokemon that look most appealing to me, and alsogive me a decent type variety. Maybe I screwed up when I played Diamond and picked all the best pokemon that gen, leaving nobody decent for me in Pearl. But I just know when I got to the elite four in pearl, I had a way harder time than in any other game. I even considered using a legendary.

I think Gen 3 was pretty decent. Lots of people like to say 1st and 2nd are the best, but I find that there are a decent amount of pokemon i liked in 3. And even though I grew up with 1 and 2, I think 3 might be my favorite gen.

I love Pokemon. It’s literally the first video game ever bought. My best memory would actually be just saving up for a GBA and Sapphire for a whole year. Walking into the store and proudly buying something with your money as such a little kid was one of the most satisfying things ever. Also coming to mind is the fact that I’ve played Gen 3 three times. I played Sapphire all the way through, then decided that I liked Ruby more so I traded with my brother and played Ruby until I got to the Elite 4. I did something there which you should NEVER EVER do, which is saving between the battles. I couldn’t beat the Elites so I started a new profile and finally completed Ruby.

As for the newer Gens, I quite like them. Gens 4 and 5 contain some of my favorite Pokemon, and the fact that Nintendo tried for some semblance of a story in Black and White makes me happy. I’m super psyched for the sequels to come out.

On a side note, I used to be quite a big fan of the TCG, but I stopped buying the cards because I had nobody to play against. I recently took a look at the new cards and holy balls are they overpowered.

@gear12 you know if you just let the elite 4 member beat you you’d “white out” and be back at the nearest pokecenter? you didn’t have to make a new profile… unless you didn’t want any losses on your conscience

@awhaleable I know that now, but it doesn’t really matter considering I beat them again anyway. Besides, it was like, 8 years ago so I was still a dumb little kid with his first Pokemon game.
