A few players have been going around slaughtering NPC villages just for the lulz, and I got to ask, is killing unclaimed NPC villages griefing? Even though they are unclaimed, I still think its unfair for everyone else on the server, especially for people who don’t have a village immediately near them. When I started my own NPC village, I had to travel a few thousand blocks just to get to the nearest village, laying down tracks for several hours; a nearer village had already been wiped out. I can’t say for sure if it was zombies or players, but my point is that people who want access to villagers won’t be able to if their nearest village has been wantonly destroyed.
So, In the interest of fairness, could the mods please decide once and for all if NPC killing is griefing?
July 20, 2012 at 8:57 am #44017it’s like asking whether an unclaimed flock of cows or group of pigs is okay to kill, and the same arguments could be given.
July 20, 2012 at 9:07 am #44019The difference is, cows or pigs are a lot easier to breed.
Also, NPCs are going to be a lot more important as of 1.3.
July 20, 2012 at 11:52 am #44049that is really good question because NPCs will become very important in the next update. It would seem like a total dick move if after trading countless hours with an NPC village and get a great deal like 5 seeds for one diamond. You leave to get the like 10 stacks of seeds. when you comeback and you see someone killing them all the NPCs and burning the place down. it totally would suck balls.
July 20, 2012 at 12:13 pm #44057Well…to be honest. I think NPC killing should only be griefing IF someone cleary has claimed the village for themselves or for public access and made a point that you should not kill them. (signs, a flag, something clearly player made.) If someone finds a village on their own, there really shouldn’t be a penalty if he or she decides that the villagers will die.
(Even if it is a sad sight to see an empty village.)
I would say a rule is fine but not one against killing ‘ANY’ villagers.
Also, what are the chances that a giant NPC village could exist or be created for public use in the update?
Because that would probably lower the fear of not having any villagers to trade with.July 20, 2012 at 12:19 pm #44061Also, what are the chances that a giant NPC village could exist or be created for public use in the update?
Because that would probably lower the fear of not having any villagers to trade with.Wippit‘s purpose. Ramrod and I have been working on it off and on. We’ll try to have it done before the update. At the very least, the central village and the two others (the areas surrounded by wood) will be available to the public for use, whether we finish the entire area in time or not. It is also 99% safe already (excluding zombie sieges).
July 20, 2012 at 1:16 pm #44077Luckysimon is also hosting an event soon where we are going to connect 2 villages across a giant desert.
July 20, 2012 at 1:42 pm #44080it is if the village is protected by someone/town. For example there was an NPC village that was destroyed near Tortuga. I know who did it and I did nothing because I had not gotten around to putting up signs. The village I have now is walled in and it is pretty obvious that it is protected. That would be griefing in my opinion.
July 20, 2012 at 8:01 pm #44121the town near the my wood fort. I took the wood from it to build the fort…sorry.
July 26, 2012 at 12:41 pm #45061To whom it may concern there is already a fully functional NPC market place in DDI.

I’m not mad or anything at who did do it. I should have put up signs and I didn’t. I also took wood and other supplies from the destroyed town afterward. I didn’t want it to continue to be a mess.
July 31, 2012 at 8:00 am #45778A dick move indeed. At least keep 2 NPCs so they can reproduce.
July 31, 2012 at 4:32 pm #45877There should only be a rule for killing of claimed villages or clearly proteceted ones. Otherwise, the natural roles of nature shall take place.
Could make a fantastic documentary on YouTube.
