Cuz there’s bound to be one. Share your gripes that you have with a favourite game!
The only two that come to my mind right now are:
The boat level of Mirror’s Edge. Although I like how it actually feels like a boat, right down to the ambient sounds and wall textures, this is the most boring level in the game. Too much emphasis on avoiding gunshots for my liking. I’d rather run and climb over stuff.
The ninth colossus (Basaran)from Shadow of the Colossus. You know, the one that you need to lead over top of a geyser while it’s shooting ballistics at you? The one where, even after upwards of ten minutes of trying to get it knocked over, you can still fail climbing up onto its back? Yeah, that one. Once I take him down, I can take them ALL down! >:(
April 30, 2012 at 5:38 am #27457This one is obvious: The planet scanning in Mass Effect 2 (and 3). It’s just really boring busywork without any actual gameplay, and you have to do it if you want a good ending. The hacking minigames are so much better than this. Oh, and the mining in Star Control 2 is too.

The end game collection in Wind Waker was pretty annoying. Really slowed the game down.

April 30, 2012 at 8:00 am #27473Insult sword/monkey fighting in the Monkey Island games. Especially the latter because it didn’t even have the benefit of being funny. They just dragged on for too long and really grinded the game to a halt until you learned all the combinations.
Also any of the multi-battle parts in Final Fantasy Tactics. Since the first time you play through you don’t know when they happen, and when you move to a spot the menu pops up to start the first battle, and doesn’t allow you to back off and save first.
April 30, 2012 at 8:06 am #27475The escort part of Metal Gear Solid 3. You go into that section with a lot of ammo, but very little food. You need that food to keep recovering the stamina of the person you’re escorting, EVA, or else she’ll faint and most likely get shot and die. You can hunt for more food, but most of the food available provides very little nourishment. Then she collapses and 4 heavily armed baddies show up and shoot her when you’re not around. The game could have done without this sequence if you ask me.
April 30, 2012 at 8:07 am #27476Metro 2033 – It ended. But hey, the sequel will be out soon so I’m happy. ;D
Valkyria Chronicles 2 – See above. That and the somewhat excessive post-game grinding to craft new equipment.
Earth Defence Force 2017 – Spiders… They cheat, a lot. That and that the 4th game in the series isn’t out yet (EDF:IA doesn’t count – Different developer, consider it a spin-off).
Persona 3 FES – That I’m so terrible at actually finishing RPGs. Really, that’s my only complaint.
King of Fighters series (13 is probably the best so far, though I also love MI2) – Cheap bosses. Everything else about the games is fantastic.
Close Combat V – That a good sequel haven’t been released yet.

April 30, 2012 at 5:25 pm #27534Deus Ex: Human Revolution – The endings.
Borderlands – A couple of the DLC packs. Mad Moxxi’s and Claptrap’s DLC were just disappointing for me.
Threads of Fate – The difference in how easy the two main character’s abilities are to use when you need them. Mint having access to all abilities as soon as they’re unlocked vs. Rue only being able to store four forms before having to get rid of one.
April 30, 2012 at 5:30 pm #27535World of warcraft : the whole of wrath of the lich king
Mass effect 1 : all the damn sidequests, they was basic the same after you left the citidel
Mass effect 2 : scanning planets
Mass effect 3 : the flying away from reapers, ofc the ending but w/e now
Skyrim : farming to become leader of the thief guild, god that was a grind and really boring.
thats the game i like i can find flaws in on top of my head(:
April 30, 2012 at 6:24 pm #275441)Basaran from shadow of the colossus was just tedious and annoying.
2)The saving system in majora’s mask almost never works!
That is not even close to what I can actually list.April 30, 2012 at 6:26 pm #27545Wind Waker: Collecting the triforce pieces, fuck off Tingle.

I would always save before I did a quest or after I got an item, then I would shut my console off and turn it back on the next morning and my saves where gone. (The only time it worked is when I went back in time.)
May 1, 2012 at 7:42 am #27608Matchmaking in ANY PC game is a huge letdown… I’m really a server guy.
*Cough* Assassins Creed *Cough*

EDIT: So what I thought was true wasn’t. Whoops. Anyway, it does seem that if you load up an owl save that it sends you back to Day 1. I guess it was designed as more of a quicksave.

May 1, 2012 at 11:19 am #27625This goes for any game, not just favorites:
artificial means of lengthening gameplay
You know what I’m talking about: excessive backtracking, collection busywork, necessary (slow-paced) grinding, killing all enemies in the location to move on, lack of running. All of these can be implemented well if they are rewarding, but they almost always aren’t.
