kshade: You need to whitelist all subdomains of ape.videogamesawesome.com, meaning 1.ape.videogamesawesome.com, 2.ape.videogamesawesome.com, 3.ape.videogamesawesome.com and so forth. There should be a wildcard option in your firewall to do that, like *.ape.videogamesawesome.com
I’ve done all of that and it’s still not working BUT I just downloaded another IRC client and I believe that I’ve FINALLY got the chat to work for me. I would still like to know why my browser chat doesn’t work but I won’t be shedding tears if it doesn’t because I have the client chat working now hooray! Thanks for all your help kshade :)
May 31, 2012 at 1:42 pm #34140Because of some overzealous security software on your end, that’s all I can say from here.
May 31, 2012 at 9:40 pm #34298Is there a way I could use chat in a IRC client instead of the website. I’ve tried before with no success at all. So unless I’m doing something wrong, maybe we can change this. I think it would be a great idea to open the chat up more then just the site to bring the community closer and to use for just a place to be during the show. Any help or ideas would be great. By the way I’m using Xchat for my IRC client

How can I use an IRC client?
Connect to irc.videogamesawesome.com and make it use a server login and password. Those are your site credentials. Then join #ffstv. Your ident/username should be your site login name, your nickname should be the same as your ident but can have a single _ in front of it (needed if your login starts with a number) and a _ followed by a number at the end.

By the way I’m using Xchat for my IRC clientI had this exact same problem! Are you a turbo member btw? I used Xchat to get the ffstv chat to work so I’ll see if I can help you through it :)
Firstly, Go into your Xchat: Network list and add your username as all the options. Then in the network drop down bar underneath, click the add button and type in irc.videogamesawesome.com
Then click the edit button and go to the ‘Favourite channels’ section and click the ‘…’ button. click ‘Add’ and type in ffstv as well as your password for this site and click ok. I also added the same password to the ‘Nickserv password’ and ‘Server Password’. Click close and then click ‘connect’ on that network that you have just made and it should work!May 31, 2012 at 9:54 pm #34312Speaking of IRC chat, does anyone know why ‘Skipping host resolution (disabled by server administrator)’ is coming up in the IRC chat? Or is that because nobody is online at this point in time?

It’s quicker that way and there was an exploit related to it when we started.
May 31, 2012 at 9:59 pm #34314I don’t

I don’t get what any of that means but as long as the chat is still working because it appears that nobody is online in the chat at this point in time and I don’t want to be freaking out it not working when it is :S
May 31, 2012 at 9:59 pm #34316no I’m not a turbo but weird thing is that When i log in the chat on the site I can get in fine here and try to log in to the chat on Xchat it says that name is already logged in. so I know i’m doing something right. I’m also getting the Server admin issue as well.

Please try to log into the web client as you would normally, wait a few seconds and then press the “:(” button to send me some debugging information.
May 31, 2012 at 10:07 pm #34320Okay, got the message. It looks perfectly fine though. What exactly seems to be wrong after you log in?
May 31, 2012 at 10:07 pm #34321Just sent the debug info you need. It’s just weird that I can log into the sites chat but then when I use my client it sees that my name is in use but not able to log me in when I’m not on chat here.

May 31, 2012 at 10:11 pm #34325It looks up my host name, says access denied, remote host closed socket, and then retries.
May 31, 2012 at 10:22 pm #34329I’ll send you a zip file of the chat log of what exactly is happening. If you cant figure out what’s wrong then it’s no big deal kshade, It’s just confusing me.
