This is a handy place to go to so we can discuss the new map pl_volcanic. Both so we as a community can figure out if the map is good, or bad, and why.
pl_volcanic is a volcano (who would’a guessed) themed single stage long payload map, currently in alpha, and the fist place winner of the TF2maps.net dynamic payload competition. the dynamic elements being a downwards lift at the blue spawn, and a crane that traverses the cart between 2nd and 3rd point. also worth mentioning is the lava found on the map is not instakill, and gives off heatwaves that can disrupt line of sight.
I implore you to add videos clips, and replays of any issues you find in the map. but most importantly please keep the discussion civil
Summary of some points in the thread:
June 17, 2012 at 8:05 pm #37954Lava is fun. Big fan of this map (im a big fan of all the maps(and if you noticed theres a BIG fan in this map heyoooo)). I love every part of the dynamic elevator, even though that part of the map has been where I’ve had the most losses. Its a fun as hell map to play, my only complaint is that I would like to see it a little more finished perhaps? Apparently its only in its alpha stage, so maybe save this slot for a more final version of the map. Also, more lava please. I like the lava.

June 17, 2012 at 8:11 pm #37959Out of all the new maps that we’re testing out right now, Volcanic is definitively my favorite. There are so many unique elements on this map from start to finish including but not limited to the weight scales, the fan room, and the way the map moves. It’s got many multiple paths and it’s open enough that any class I believe can do well on it. My only complaint about it, like [total's] is that the map is only in alpha right now. I think, however, that once the final version comes out, it would make an awesome addition to our server.

June 17, 2012 at 9:31 pm #37976Yeah, it’s certainly a fun map and there are some cool points (looking at you, red spawn right over track that you can camp in). Definitely needs finishing though. It seems awfully bland, like they started from the last point and went from there. Up until the last point there is little to no decoration. Cool map though.
June 17, 2012 at 9:36 pm #37977I kinda think that the map is a bit confusing. Officialized Tf2 maps MUST have good lighting. The lighting in Volcano does not subtlety point you in the right direction or of routes like Official maps. This will probably changed when it’s in the final version.
June 17, 2012 at 9:55 pm #37980Only played it once, but why does the track go so close to the blue spawn?
As a medic I kept next to the locker and could practically heal the engineer right outside without taking any damage.
It does not take long to shoot, take some damage, spend like 4 seconds rehealing from the locker and firing again.June 17, 2012 at 10:39 pm #37983I’m close to voting no against it, but only because of how unfinished it looks, it really needs to be fleshed out a lot more in terms of details, as a basic map in of itself, it’s good. Right now though it just doesn’t LOOK good. Hopefully within the coming months more will be fleshed out and there will be hidden little details that an artist like myself will enjoy.
June 17, 2012 at 11:21 pm #37988This map has an amazing design and the concept is really cool, but i feel that this map is a little unbalanced. It leans towards the offensive team a little. But it is only in alpha so they will probably balance it out more in future versions.
June 18, 2012 at 2:24 am #37993This map is interesting. I do find myself getting lost when on red team, though with playing it enough times I might know where to go. I do enjoy the elevator and the crane in the map too; I also like at how the volcano rumbles from time to time, as well as the lava and heat waves. Yet the final area with the last point does feel quite boring, though most of the people here have mentioned that and would probably be altered in the final version.
Overall good map, some tweaking could be use but a pretty solid map. :)
Also, is it really a GOOD idea to drop a BOMB into a VOLCANO?! :OJune 18, 2012 at 3:15 am #37997I love this this map. I don’t care for “decoration”, for me it’s about the map and how good it works.
My only problem with this is the room at the last control point. It’s too confusing and I’m never really sure which direction I’m going and which path leads where…. -
