Official Olympics Event Thread!!! – UPDATED AFTER FRASER MEETING!!!

UPDATED August 13th!!! – Met with Fraser, so we’ve got a final-ish plan to go ahead with.  The plan is for the show to be Tuesday night, August 14th, starting at about 6-7PDT.  We have new changes to the events (they are now in the order they will be shown), a new section on the opening ceremonies, and some news on marathon and triathalon.  As for the last portion, well… the news is… Fraser cut them.  As I had told people they would likely not be able to compete elsewhere, the people in those events have nothing else to compete in, so I’m upping the numbers of Gauntlet and Spleef.  If there are any changes you want me to make to your placement, please tell me in this thread.

Hey, guys!  As I’m sure you all know, the Olympics have been pushed back as Ben is on a trip and won’t be back until the 13th.  At the moment, we have no set show date.  If you will have issues, however, with making the show anywhere around this area, let me know.  Now that the building and submission of teams is over, I feel it best to create a third, clean thread to deal with what we have to deal with now.  So, what do you have to deal with now?

ANTHEMS

As I’m sure most people know of, and many have panicked over, Fraser has decided to go into a different direction with the anthems.  He now asks that every team submit their own “original” anthem.

Now, of course, I put “original” in quotes for a reason.  While Equestria and The Edge’s anthems are completely original compositions, New Old Port and Renimar’s are new words given to an existing tune (The Soviet National Anthem and O, Canada respectively).  You are more than welcome to do this.

We would like to see two versions of each anthem: one with vocals and one instrumental.  If you cannot put together a vocal version, then sing the words and send us the words and music, and we’ll put them together.  If you can’t record vocals then we can find someone who can.  If you’re changing the words to a song and can’t get a cleam copy of the music without words, then we’ll find it.  Just get it to us as soon as possible and we’ll do whatever we can.  We’re really looking forward to this.

THE OPENING CEREMONIES

Before the show, all competitors will go to their building in the Olympic Village.  Fraser will go to each building and let the people inside out, announcing their names as they come through.  They will then begin marching side-by-side around the square road in the Village.  After Fraser has checked out every building, he will fly overhead to see all the competitors marching together.  He will then go to break, and everyone will go to the Stadium, where they will stand in the center next to the sign for their community.

Fraser will come back from the break in Historia to witness the torch lighting.  Lucky will take the torch, run through the Coliseum, then run to the portal.  After following him through this, Fraser will go to the video of the torch running.  He will then come back at the Olympic Village, where he will follow the torch lighter to the Stadium.  The torch lighter will run once around the track and then light the torch.

Finally, an appearance by The Queen, and Fraser will declare the games open.

THE EVENTS

For all events, unless otherwise specified, competitors will have no inventory on them.  Before the games, competitors will rest in a bed and be killed before each event to ensure their empty inventories.  No cheating.

Hurdles: Competitors race two laps around the track, jumping over hurdles on the way.  Touching hurdles is allowed.

Relay: Competitors on the first leg start out with a redstone torch and take a lap around the track before meeting the second leg runners and throwing the torch to them.  They then run a lap before throwing the torch to the next runners, and eventually the fourth runners cross the finish line.

Field Events: A couple quick field events are going to be held after the track events.

Competitors: Segwo EDG, EnterMEUN ATL, LuckySimon HRM, ZombieFobby EPS, DespiteMidnight EQU, squidbuddy PAN, boyney REN, mrchrismad NOP

Boating: Boaters ride through the track while trying to avoid obstacles and each other. Each competitor will have five boats, and be eliminated from the event if all five boats are broken. Whoever is first to the end or gets the farthest before losin all their boats wins the diamond.

Digging: Competitors start at the top of a tall column of cobble and other materials. Armed with a pick, they will dig down. The lowest time wins, but picking up ores along with way will give you time bonuses, so digging straight down is not advantageous.

Swimming: Competitors will do four laps (twice back and fourth) in the pool.  Fastest swimmer wins.

Synchronized Swimming: Teams do short routines dancing together in the pool.  Judges decide which are best.

Diving: Competitors dive from the diving board, doing so as fancy as possible to wow the judges.  Bringing your own props is allowable.

Water Polo: As Fraser and the gang have enjoyed making fun of Water Polo the entire games, he’d like to have a little display for the show.  Mostly just jostling around and throwing a snowball using Q.

Competitors: Renimar (Lemme know who you want to play) vs Epsilon (Lemme know who you want to play)

Soccer: Two teams of five attempt to push a sheep into the other’s goal.  Most goals in the ten minute time wins.  No hitting of the sheep or other competitors is allowed.  We will only be playing the diamond medal match, but may play the iron medal match if it goes well.

Competitors: Pandora (JimboJJ, demon_in_chrome, lidien, boshuido, sammys7s) vs. Aperture (still need to give me the members of their team)

“Fencing”: Farce event where two competitors place fences and destroy their opponents

Fencing: A tournament as competitors fight to the death using swords.  Last survivor wins.

Survival: Each competitor will choose a chest at random and then, armed only with the items inside and whatever they scavenge off the bodies of the others, they must stay alive.  The last survivor wins the diamond medal.

Climbing: Competitors climb up the climbing track to try to get to the top first.  After 3 semi-final rounds, the three winners will go to the final to decide medal order.  Redstone torches will be places along the track to be picked up by competitors.  Failure to do so will result in time penalties.

Turbo Sticks: Two groups of four turbo stick their heart out (swinging sticks) and are slowly eliminated by Fraser.  The winner of each group goes head-to-head for the diamond (with the two second-place finishers going to the iron).

Archery: Starting at a line 30 blocks away, everyone fires their bows towards the targets one by one.  At the end of the first round, those who are farthest off the bullseye are eliminated, and everyone fires again.  This continues until there are two remaining, and whoever has the best shot will win the diamond.  In the event that there are too many with the same result, the archers will move back 10 blocks and fire again.  Practicing beforehand is prohibited, as it would be too easy to find a sweet spot and know where to fire.

Gauntlet: Competitors run from the start and try to navigate numerous rooms of death-defying traps.  Competitors who die must start from the start.  First one to get to the end wins diamond.  Hitting each other is completely allowed.

Pig Racing: Teams of two run through the Pig Racing Track with one riding the pig and the other holding wheat.  The one holding wheat must always walk backwards.  The first three to the end of the two semifinals will make it to the final.

Building: Competitors each recieve a plot to build on and a chest with building materials.  Using only the materials in the chest and whatever is within the build plot, competitors build a house.  At the end of the time limit (likely 6-10 minutes) houses will be judged on a multitude of criteria, including looks, lighting, and function.

Parkour: Competitors will run through the parkour track two-at-a-time in an attempt to get the lowest time.  Quickest time wins the diamond.  Practicing on the track is SUGGESTED because it’s really hard, and we’d like to avoid the show dragging due to inability to complete.  Falling into the water after the second stage will end your trial.

Rowing: Four teams of two will race down a straightaway.  However they must keep the boats connected at all times during the race.

Competitors: Aperture, Epsilon, The Hermitage, Pandora (As I’ve dropped the teams for this event from four to two, I need each team to let me know which two they want to be a part of the event.)

Basketball: Two teams of five face-off on the court.  There will be one orange wool block which both teams will try to throw into the hoop.  First to 15 wins.  All baskets count as one point.  We will only be playing the diamond medal game.

Competitors: Epsilon (Azurillkirby, Man_of_Pac, Koopakirby, Hadesbane, Tgorman83) vs. The Hermitage (Wred51, Goodroy55, MRCHEESE777, Mlamacese, Tim_Lavarnway)

Spleef: Eight competitors each round will be places on a field of snow and, digging out the blocks under the other competitors, will try to be the last one standing.  The last one of each round will go to the final.  The second-place finishers will play against each other and the top three will go to the final as well.

I never actually submitted a list of favored events; GhostxDragon (or whomever it was) made the list. I suppose that’s kind of my own fault then for not getting my own personal input in. =/

In any case, if it’s at all possible, I’d still like to be in another event other than Spleef. There is no Neo Japan representative in Digging from what I can see, so perhaps that? I’m just afraid that the only event I’m going to be in during the Olympics is one in which I will likely be drowned out by the 30+ other participants in it. (Also, on a semi-unrelated note, I’m a little concerned about Neo Japan’s odds since I’m their only representative in that event, whereas a few of the other nations have several players. I know there’s probably not much we can do about it, but it doesn’t exactly bolster my confidence. o_o; )

EDIT: Building or Gauntlet could also work too, from what I’m seeing. Really, I’ll just take anything at this point. (Except for Parkour, because I suck at it. xD )

Can someone explain to me how the turbo sticks even works, are we scores on how well we wing a stick? do we fight?

I KNOW ITS NOT LIKELY but also if  theres any way possibly to get me in some individual events for example if you hear from people that are unable to attend I know its asking alot but if possible. would be amazing, survival,digging,climbing, gauntlet etc.

One more thing, baocnator wanted steve as the uniform,which i think sucks.  if i use a skin would that be ok, or atleast modify steve in a cool way?

Really, all you have to do in turbo sticks is just wave them about. Ideally you want to do it in an inverted trapezoid. I imagine Fraser will judge who is the best turbo sticker.

The Empyrean humbly requests help for recording its anthem. I don’t have any recording equipment or software, so I need someone willing to sing it over the music I picked out (hopefully a manly, operatic voice for the full effect). I will need a little time to write the lyrics, hopefully I’ll have it done by tomorrow.

I’m working on fixing all the name errors.  Thank you for the help.

I know I’ve been tight-lipped the last couple days, but I kinda pushed to make it by Wednesday, so I’m slowing down and taking a bit of a break right now as well as dealing with some other duties in my life.  As for the specifics on the events and lists of people, I’m waiting for the ability to pretour with Fraser so I can discuss everything with him.

Enter, make the anthem about one minute if possible.  1:30 at the most.  I cut down all the anthems I recieved to easier sizes, and they all were cut to between :54 and 1:15, depending on what made them sound like a complete song.  The longest was Renimar’s anthem “O, Renimar” because it was 1:29 and hard to cut without effecting the sound.  So try to keep it low if you can.

Jmizzle, you can take your usual skin and put it in the Steve clothes.

I think I can work that out, SogHog.
