The only time Becky should even relay something from the chat is when a question is asked and the right answer has been given. The problem of course lies with people, whether intentional or not, relaying false information. There’s a reason Fraser’s impression of the chat continually gets worse.
I know some people like the fact that Becky relays jokes, and in theory it’s a good idea. But in practice it’s just let to a lot of people repeating the same tired jokes ad nauseum in the hopes that they’ll get mentioned on the show. Hell it doesn’t even have to be a joke, it could be a suggestion or a question or some other thing.
It’s a shame too, since there are plenty of turbos genuinely trying to help out; but get drowned out by a sea of white noise.
July 19, 2012 at 8:08 pm #43937Becky should relay whatever she wants cuz she’s Becky Motherfucker Blow, Queen of Chatland.
But really if all she did was relay strictly progress related information that would change the interaction of the show entirely. I do see what you’re getting at about important information being lost.
I was kind of thinking of this before, and I don’t know how the chat works, but would there be a way to maybe colorize messages with Snarfs and Derps? That would be really helpful I think.
July 20, 2012 at 2:30 am #43985honestly im enjoying recent shows, however in regard to the comments about streamlineing chat interaction theres relly two main soloutions that could be used
1. team has to have more background knowledge on game before playing it (this would most likly lower the amount of shows they do)
2. they cap the amount of people who can be involved in the main chat (whilst banishing any remaining turbos for that session to the shadow chat)
to reiterate i don’t feel like there has been a drop in quality

Sounds simple in theory, however it doesn’t change the fact that people use the snarf derp system wrong (as in they say snarf for everything, even jokes, and don’t even bother with the derp label). If anything it’d make it worse as it’d give attention hogs something more to abuse.

I agree with part 1 very much. Maybe even he could have a cheat sheet on his laptop. He always has it with him, why not just have it open to, say, a list of controls for whatever game he is playing?
Part 2 is a terrible idea though. Who would regulate that? Who would say, sorry person X, I know you’ve been really looking forward to this particular show; but you were here last time you have to sit out. Yeah, I know person X, this is your favorite game; but rules is rules. That’s just asking for more of a headache.
@Awhaleable: I was going to post this whole big thing; but then I realized I was just repeating my point about the chat needing to not be such attention whores all the time. Anyway, I wasn’t trying to censor what Becky does and doesn’t say.

And here is where I say something less popular. I’ve stated for a long time that the turbo club should’ve been closed at the point where it reached around 300 members, possibly earlier. The original idea was that only true hardcore fans of the show were supposed to be in there. If this had been done then I think it’s pretty safe to say people would know how to for instance use the snarf derp system. As it is the turbo club has I believe over 1000 members by now and therefore at this point you might as well have the old chat back (minus the trolls who create an account just to be assholes obviously).
The most convenient solution would of course be to have another tier, superturbo’s if you will, who had to do something more than have disposable income to gain entry. Of course creating such a club would undermine the regular turbo club and make those who joined it feel a bit screwed over, so it’s not really a solution that works well in practice, which is why I didn’t bring it up earlier in the thread.
July 20, 2012 at 10:01 am #44027Now that the ruddadog movie has been sold to HBO though, none of the above comments regarding profit should be an issue lol…seriously though, I think awhale summed it up best, Fraser and the gang aren’t going to be able to please everyone’s preferences regarding the show, and the current setup is probably the best way to cover the most bases as possible. I also thought about the cost of edited non-live shows like crystalhawk discussed, but that’s why I said maybe once a month etc and not on a regular basis as it would be too time consuming and stressful for fraser, much like the show and trailer eps. Anyway, I will leave it at that since so many peeps want this thread to die.

If/when it becomes more of a service, assuming Fraser will eventually enact this, I think it might go towards helping with this problem. Just for sake of argument, let’s say he makes it a yearly payment. I think far less people would be willing to put down money every year, so it would, for lack of a better term “weed out” some of the turbos. Of course that doesn’t mean the people left are guaranteed to make the chat better. While the turbo chat is far better than the way it used to be, it is also far from perfect.
July 20, 2012 at 1:46 pm #44082really tried to not post in this thread because basically i think the shows are great, and the chat is still sometimes great (Asura’s Wrath) and sometimes not at all. I am a turbo who rarely joins chat and I never considered that access to the chat should be a turbo right, although I understand the reasons why it happened.
Personally I would open chat to all again with some changes to how it is done.
Chat access only after X days registered and Y posts on the forum for example.
A permanent slow mode for the individual (except mods of course) would make people think about what they are saying, but would still leave them free to say what they feel like, and then an overall channel slow mode so we can read what has been said.
People would have to accept that they will not always be able to say something (just because of the weight of numbers), but it would not exclude them completely because of some arbitrary channel limit.
Maybe even implementing a delay before the chat hits the stream so that moderators could guard against spoilers (only needed for certain games).
I think Becky does a great job of reading the chat and feeding appropriate lines to Fraser and the fact she does not do it all the time but sometimes gets caught up in the game herself I think actually improves her role in the programmes.

now you my freind have good ideas
once again though i do feel the need to emphises that personally i am currently enjoying the show and do not feel like anything needs to change…… and im non turbo (thus already banished to the relm of shadow)
July 25, 2012 at 12:21 pm #44933I’m not a fan of restricting the amount of turbos. If turbo club becomes a yearly service with enough meat to justify it being one we’ll still continue to get more and more turbos.
I like idea of going back to a delay, it makes you think more about whether something is worth posting and there really is no reason you have to say something more than once a minute if you’re thinking about what you want to say in the message.
I also like the idea of colorized snarfs and derps, but only if mods can remove a person’s right to use them for varying periods.
July 25, 2012 at 4:15 pm #44978I think the mods should enforce the snarf/derp system more than they are. No one becomes a turbo without knowing what that system means. Also I think people should be warned about fake Snarfs just to troll/be funny and Snarfs that are just someone’s opinion like telling Fraser where to go unless he asks for help.
Trolling the gang can be funny but adding a fake Snarf to something just to get your comment read should at least warrant a TO.

July 25, 2012 at 4:57 pm #44987I know it’s a late response, but there’s something you ALL need to realize:
It’s a show with a bunch of guys (and girl) playing games on a couch and making dick jokes. Were you really expecting serious paying-attention-to-story time? Those watching the show and complaining that they aren’t paying attention to the story in-depth (especially when it’s something as in-depth and complex as Asura — yes, that’s what I said, believe it or not -_-) have no idea what this show is about -_-

July 25, 2012 at 5:59 pm #44991The new Snarf system means to only use it when asked. People who abuse it get a private warning. The Snarf system is under control now I think.
