So I was starting through VGA’s Amnesia series for the umpteenth time when it struck me that October isn’t too far off, which means a month of the gang wetting themselves for our entertainment. I remember hearing on one of their shows that they might be playing Dead Space but I haven’t caught any other hints of what might be coming. I’m sure Frasher already has some plans for the show that month, but I was curious about some of the community’s suggestions for various horror-themed games that could be played on VGA.
Now, I assume they already know about Penumbra, Amnesia’s predecessor, as it was mentioned to them in the Dark Descent playthrough and it’s probably on some list somewhere whether it’s played this year or in the future. Another game of the same type that might be good for the show is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I haven’t played it myself, but I’ve heard it’s pretty good and of similar style.
Another kind of idea they could run with would be a number of encore shows or one or two jammed together shows consisting of various shorter games that couldn’t fill up a normal timeslot on their own. Some examples of games off the top of my head would be Slender and SCP-087 (the never-ending stairway game), but I‘m sure the community can come up with more. They could play one every now and again after some of their main shows or they could have a couple days where they finish a few together, each having probably one or two segments devoted depending on how short they are or how long they stay entertaining.
Anyways, October month horror game suggestions. Toss your own out if you’ve got ‘em.

August 15, 2012 at 11:32 pm #48183Would love to watch Becky Slender don’t think it would freak Fraser out very much, also would love them to play Rise of Nightmares they where going to play it last year but never got round too it.
August 16, 2012 at 12:20 am #48188Call Of Cthulu: Dark Corners Of The Earth is not for VGA in my opinion. I think Fraser would find it extremely frustrating at points where the indication of how to go about doing something is not very clear at all plus there are some nasty difficulty spikes throughout the game, mostly during action scenes.
SCP-087 is also problematic in that it is at most 10 minutes long and the novelty wears off after the first two minutes or so. I guess couple together with Slender and some other little games it could work but I feel like even Slender would quickly run out of steam for them. Never say never though, we’ll have to see when the time comes.
As for suggestions, I kinda want to see them revisit Alan Wake, playing it myself I had the same reaction as them but it’s one of my favourite short VGAs so that would be cool. I look forward to the whole of October whatever they choose though.
August 16, 2012 at 3:24 am #48201Last year they said they got a lot of requests for Grim Fandango. I’d like to re-iterate that request.
August 16, 2012 at 4:35 am #48207I’d love to see them playing some of the Silent Hill games, since I’ve heard so much praise for them, but am too much of a coward to play horror games. Whether the games are right for the show or not I do not know, but I’d like to think they could pull it off.
August 16, 2012 at 5:28 am #48215I think they’ll have to finish Luigi’s Mansion because… it’s Luigi’s Mansion!
Co-op RE5/6 could be fun for an episode I suppose.
And of all the Silent Hill games they should play, my vote goes for Shattered Memories. I know most people will want Silent Hill 2 (I’d like to em play it too) but I don’t think it’s right for the show because of all the backtracking, longer puzzles etc.
Shattered Memories is a much better game for the show simply because there’s little,if any backtracking in the game and the puzzles are pretty simple, but fun. Fraser would probably be much less frustrated at the game.
The game itself is pretty damn fun. The complete lack of combat works really well and the game has some pretty weird, creepy and tense moments, particularly towards the end because of this.
Also I think the whole gimmick that “the game watches you” could work really well for the show and lead to some great moments.-

August 16, 2012 at 6:19 am #48218I’d also recommend Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a great creepy game with a really interesting story line.
Other horror game ideas, I know that they got a lot of requests last year to do Eternal Darkness, that could be cool to see them attempt that game! Some nice lovecraftian inspired horror there.
Alan Wake, maybe? Bioshock? Dead Space games?
And for a ‘wild card’, kind of halloweeny feel to the games, a game from the Overlord series?
August 16, 2012 at 6:32 am #48219“Alan Wake, maybe? ”
They did play Alan Wake in the early days of the VGA and, as I recall, laughed their asses off. So perhaps not the best game for Halloween… Bioshock would be great though.
August 16, 2012 at 6:44 am #48221This sounds like an odd request for halloween, but I’d love to see them Metroid Fusion. I know a lot of people say that the game has a lot of Horror elements spread throughout and I agree. The game had a fantastic atmosphere and overall, was just really tense. The story was interesting enough too.
Also every scene with the SAX freaked me out.

August 16, 2012 at 10:09 am #48234I reckon that the first condemned would be good to play. Keeps you on your toes! Very creepy.
August 16, 2012 at 10:57 am #48241I would really like to see more lonesome shows for October personally. Fraser lonesome of course, but could Fraser set things up and let Ben takeover for a little while? Seeing the rest of the cast doing a horror-themed lonesome would be great as well (especially Becky, but sadly that is one thing I fear we’ll never see). As for game suggestions, Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb would be fun, it isn’t too much of a change from the base game, but I have 324 hours logged on Binding of Isaac on Steam, so I enjoy that game. Slender would be my other choice, but I don’t think it or any other game will scare anyone but Becky if they’re talking and laughing, and except for the scare factor Slender is a very barebones game.
August 16, 2012 at 2:36 pm #48269Dead Space 2, and Condemned: Criminal Origins are really great horror games that don’t suffer from the same problems as most others (dumb puzzles, and bad gameplay).
August 16, 2012 at 2:39 pm #48270Dead Space
August 16, 2012 at 3:12 pm #48272I hope they finish Luigi’s Mansion, because they’re not far from finishing it and it’s a short game. Unfortunately I’m not into Horror/Halloween games so I don’t have any good suggestions. XO
