Team Fortress Opinion Gathering! -Now with an EDIT

Hey dudes and dudettes, we here on the Mod Squad have been bouncing around ideas for keeping the TF2 server fun and interesting for all y’all and we’d like to hear your suggestions and opinions on the matter! We make no promises that we can implement everyone or anyone’s suggestions, but we definitely want to know them and hopefully we can use them to make Team Fortress Awesome even awesomer!

So, to get the ball rolling, here’s a couple of ideas we’ve been bandying about:

IDEA 1: Wacky Fun Nights– nights where we load up some of those wacky mods like Hide’n'Seek and such and let folks get wacky!

IDEA 2: Opening the Server to Entire Community– We think that playing with some new faces from time to time would be fun and also give folks who aren’t turbo a chance to play with you guys and join in on the shenanigans. It most likely wouldn’t be a permanent change– More like when a game on Steam has a free weekend or a certain, regular time of day that’s open to everyone.

So! That’s stuff we’ve been thinking about. Try to keep feedback upbeat and informative: If you’re not keen on an idea, say so, but we don’t need long essays on the matter. And if you have ideas of your own, throw them out! We wanna hear them.

However: This is not, I repeat, NOT a vote. This is a fact finding mission! This is a public opinion poll! This is us interested in what you have to say and then once we know, we’ll get on with the decision making better informed about what will make folks happy.

Would it help you turbos feel better about opening the server up (on a temporary, I repeat temporary, like maybe once a week or a weekend a month), if we assured you that there would be a strong mod presence on to deal with potential trolls?

My opinion, i really like the idea of fun nights, can give us a weekly wacky thing to do, something quirky to look forward to on the server, and just a single day for those that dont wish to partake.

On the other hand opening up the server im not 100% on, and this is nothing against you non turbos, but i really like the nature of the TF2 server, iv managed to make a ton of friends and i try to remain regularly active on the server just because i know awesome people that i love to hag out with and talk to will be there.
The slow trickle in of new turbos i can keep up with, but a flood of people i dont think i would be comfortable with atall, in a room with a mass of people i dont know i would stop talking, it is the main reason i go to the VGA server, to be with my friends, in a comfortable environment.
If the server were to go semi-public there would be large chunks of time for those who are uncomfortable with it to be put out by it.

Ok first off: I do like the community a bit closed, but it wouldn’t annoy me if it was open. However, i think that maybe if we limit the open server to one weekend out of the month on a set schedule (such as the second weekend of every month)

Second: TF2Ware is no longer discontinued. They are working on a sequel to the mod as well. sent a link to neko, and i believe its what you are looking for.

i like those ideas very much. especially the randomizer. it’s so wrong and yet so awesome.
I’d love to see these things come by in the server every now and then. =D

Those are both good ideas, I’d love to play some diffrent gamemodes every now and then. (maby every other sunday, not too often)

and for the open to public part. it’s a good way to give people a taste of the turbo club. Around christmas when the server was still public, I played on it a lot and I was a bit sad to see it become turbo only again. So that was my main reason to become turbo ;) (I don’t say it should become full public again, but once a month or something)

i like the ideas of adding game modes to the server cos there are quite a few fun modes out there such as hide ‘n’ seek and randomizer im for that idea…

but i dont really know about the going public idea because atm im having alot of trouble just trying to speak on microphone to the other turbos because i did mainly join up to make some friends and enjoy a game or 2 with some newer peoples but i feel as tho if the server goes public i will never get to the point where i can speak to the other turbos because i am a very shy person as it is i dont do well speaking to new people….

I really love the idea of playing wacky fun nights..

But the idea of the server to be public isn’t really what I would like to see… Because when I go on to play TF2…

There are 2 options:

Play with my friends OR Play with random people…

I rather play with my friends and within a closed group you always get to know all the newcomers…

I mean… I wouldn’t see me as a old turbo member… only been turbo sinces Christmas.. and started playing TF2 in the middle of January.. Took me about 5 minutes to make good friends with some people at the server.. and I think that is the BIGGEST strength of the server =)…

I think it should be 1 day a week (with a password ofc). But, if Fraser is playing (like he tweeted it to say that) on that day we choose to make public, white-listed only. Just an opion..
EDIT:
I Really worried about haters… Because of them telling something to Fraser and he becoming mad at us as well. On the other side, I want all the fans to play as well. It’s a really difficult choice we’re making

As a non-turbo of course I think it would be cool to play on the server again, even if it is a limited run. Had a lot of fun during the semi-public trial. Of course, it’s not my decision so if it doesn’t pan out, oh well. Maybe I will get turbo at some point.

making the server public does sound good but at the same time, I’m sort of against it. I remember when it was opened to the public, it was hard to get to know people and some people that were non-turbo would be legit jerks. When the server went private, I got to know most turbos who played and create bonds with them. Whenever a new turbo joins, we welcome them with opened arms. There is one idea that could work and that’s making the server public once or twice a week. That would encourage non-turbos to become turbos.

I think that opening the server up would be interesting, as I first started in on the server when it was open to public with a password. I DO think it would be fun to have like an 8 hour slot everyweek or so for Community nights, letting new members get a taste of the fun. But, I do agree with the others in saying that I do have a certain loyalty to my fellow Turbo friends, and I far enjoy playing with my friends then others, although I’m always open to meeting new faces.

I think new game modes would be interesting to spice up the server at certain times. We spend enough time coming up with our own personal shenanigans, including Clay Demos, no gravity Medic fights and our taunt battles, so why not include more legit shenanigan-y game types?

I think both these ideas are good, provided there are limited and well scheduled.

Idea 1 is good, I just don’t want to log in, hoping for a nice game of TF2 with my friends and be asked to hide as a barrel for 5 minutes. Providing there’s warning when these nights happen though, I have no problem.

I can understand why people are apprehensive about Idea 2 but really, I can’t be against it. I started playing on the server when it was public and the change to private is a large part of what prompted my turboship. An open day/weekend every once in a while (once a month or whatever) would mix up the gameplay a bit and may encourage more turbos. Again it would (obviously) have to be announced well in advance.

Also, it’s not like if we start something we can’t stop it. We can give these ideas a try and, if we’re inundated with horrible people and awful game modes… we can stop, can’t we?

I think wacky fun nights would be a great addition for the server. It’s nice to play something different from normal gameplay for a little while!

As for making it public.. I’m a little hesitant about that idea. Mainly because I’m comfortable with everyone in the server already, and it’s easier to welcome one or two new turbos than it is to welcome a much larger quantity of new people, at one time, who we may or may not see again.

However, I remember how much fun I had when the server was public, and I was not yet a turbo. I refused to go on any other server, I had that much fun. The turbos were really friendly, and when it became turbo only again, that made me want to become turbo even more.
But even with that in mind, I’m still not 100% sure about it.

I’d like the idea for the server to be open, I love to meet other people but… I’m that kind of person that worries about Trolls and such, I mean like if we let it open we could make new friends,but I would like the idea for it to be just on certian weekends. About the fun nights… YES!!! We need to have a Saxton Hale mod, and Prop hunt (Hide and Seek). I love the idea. About the Server being pubilc… I’m semi Ups… Semi… Down.. just because of trolls.. but people can behave. So that’s my opinon on the server being public. Thank you for listening. T_T

Weekly wacky fun nights would be awesome!
But to be honest I don’t really like the idea of changing the gamemode to Vs Saxton Hale or Prophunt

Instead of the gamemode mods I’d prefer just small mods & (for the people who are “of age”) lots of drinking/playing a drinking game.

But whatever you guys decided to do for the wacky fun night, I demand that we have the Karaoke mod:
