Teams on TF2

Hello Turbos of the tf2 vga server. I have something i feel i need to say, though what i am going to say will probably make some turbos mad at me. I feel this is important enough were i need to try to resolve it or at least try to get my ideas across to people. This is about teams on tf2. I have been noticing recently a certain groups of turbos always being on the same team. This is not once, nor twice but almost every single game. Its not even 1 or 2 people but its enough to make almost a full team. What this is doing is forcing pretty much the same teams for matches with a few changes. Im kind of up set about team stacking ( making a team op). Im more upset because this does not allow diversity between teams and does not give people the opportunity to play with different players, and causes matches with the same people on your team and the opposing team. Though the people who are doing this prefer the same teams, because then they can play with there friends, it makes the game less enjoyable for others. Therefore i think the people who are doing this should not just try to be on the same team with the same people but pick a random team like everyone else. This is not meant to be an attack on these people, because they are very nice turbos and some of my friends in this community,but i feel like this should stop , or happen less often.

Asdey, i agree full on with every word you said as this does happen and it makes the game a little bit repetitive with same teams for multiple rounds at a time. I’m all fine with people wanting to be on the same team and work together as awesome fantabulous friends, more power to ya, but every once in a while you should be on opposite teams and be against your friends in a neat battle that will be fun for everybody! People can also make new friends by interacting with other players as well and still have some friends on their team. Personally i view being on opposite teams with my friends as a way to give a challenge to make us better as we fight.

I get annoyed on occasion when a everyone goes red, as Neko is known for always picking red team, but for the most part I don’t mind it. What does drive me crazy is when people actively quit their team after a shuffle to re-team up with their favorites. I hesitate to say friends, as we are all generally friends, but there are some cliques that stick together (though I won’t name anyone in particular). I believe its mostly because older Turbos typically prefer to stay with those they know, but to be fair I’m almost never on anymore, so I’m probably not the best judge of recent events. I have in the past sought out certain players to be on my team, which were usually the good spies, so as I would not have to rage at them for being spies as much as i normally would =P

I always pick random for teams and don’t notice the same people being on the same teams. When I do care about what team to go on, I’m usually preferring being on the opposite team of my friends so I can kill them. Maybe I’ve just never noticed team cliques because I don’t play that way. It might be more the same people playing during the same times making sameish teams. I know the server gets players by friends probing each other to play sometimes so that factors in. We do need some variety now and then so if people have a habit of this they could do with shaking it up.

I typically don’t mind when it’s just one or even two people picking their favorite color, but why do we need 6 or more people choosing team RED instead of just going for what is open at the moment? I saw a heavy switch teams just because he was on BLU earlier. We could of used that heavy! What was so wrong about being on BLU, Don’t you know that after the round (depending on the map) you’d switch teams making you a different color?

I’ve been holding in this complaint for a while because I was afraid of being singled out for being bitchy, and I didn’t want to risk being banned.

I, as well as other mods and coms, have been noticing this issue in the server for the past couple of months.

I personally fear it will discourage newer turbos and players from playing in our server. The TF Awesome server already has very high skill leveled players compared to public servers. With specific veterans joining Red, it leaves newer players to be on the opposing team and even makes teams stacked for the first 2 rounds (until scramble).

We could turn on auto-join only for the server but I personally don’t want to force that upon Turbos. I would like to urge people to choose to use the auto-join option think about team balance. I know that people don’t specifically go out of their way thinking “I wanna be on the best team”. They’re thinking: “I wanna be on a team with my friends”.

Before you click to join a specific team, however, just stop and think about newer players or less skilled players– we have all been there. Imagine being new to TF2 and you walk into the game and just get killed and killed and killed. Now imagine that, but instead of it being a quiet, public server its a
server where you hear the other team strategizing and just all around kicking butt. Pretty intimidating, isn’t it?

I want our server to be a fun and casual experience for newer players and veterans alike. So I urge you again: use auto-join. Think about team balance.
You’re all pretty cool guys and gals; I’m sure you understand.

Heh, I guess that was bound to happen sooner or later. You all are quite right and I am one of those culprits.
I’ve been doing that…. Pretty much all the time and never thought about it.

I shall keep this into consideration and use the auto-join more often.

There is mod or setting we could use; It puts everyone on the same team and for few seconds turns on friendly fire, then scrambles the teams.

As I said in my post, I really don’t think we need plugin to sort out this issue. Im sure people are kind enough to use auto-join. If not we may need to implement a plugin, but wouldn’t want to force that on people.

I’m one of the peple who almost always uses auto join and i have noticed this issue. That being said, i haven’t actually considerd this a problem or found it annoying.

Asdey does however make a good point and people should choose teams randomly unless there is a good reason not to (if you’ve been blu all night you might want to switch to red manually, or if you occasionally want to play with a certain friend or group).

I do not want to se a plugin forcing auto join because like Mikey said we’re all fine people and i’m sure we can make this work for everybody.

When I join a side, it all depends on what I’m in or the map.
If it has to do with pushing sometimes I’ll pick blue to push and other times I’ll pick red. However if I get switched to the opposite side I just keep on playing. It annoys me though when it happens at the end of the match and I get put on the losing team at the end.

I don’t mind being on the losing team from the beginning as it keeps it challenging. Yea, I don’t like one sided matches either..want some back and forth fighting.

I didn’t pay any attention to who was grouped together but someone said yesterday the reason we were losing because of these three players being on the same team.

I like to think people don’t just pick red because Neko is red a lot. Neko is cool as fuck and all but killing him is way more satisfying.

You won’t get banned for having an opinion, it’s a gaming community not North Korea.
