Time for another contest! This time the prize is quite illustrious: A Turboship donation!

In other words: The winner of the contest will get into the Turbo Club for free!

The way the contest works is you go over to http://www.reddit.com/r/VGA/ and post some of them links! This contest is all about activity, so you’ll want to post all sorts of links and other content in there. There’s some hints on what to post in the Reddit thread.

The winner will be decided with a random number generator picking from the top three most active users on the VGA subreddit. Turbos are of course in on themselves sort of uneligible for the prize, but if a Turbo wins it, they can then give that turboship to a non-turbo friend they have.

One important disclaimer about the prize is that it will only be granted to a member of the community that somebody can actually vouch for. This is so that not anybody can just come up and join the Turbo club, especially if they don’t know how to behave. That said, don’t worry even if you feel like there isn’t anyone who can vouch for you. If you know you’re not a cock, we, of the subreddit moderators, will make sure you’ll have the chance to win.

The contest will end on May 1st and soon after I, representing myself and the subreddit, will live stream rolling a random number generator to determine the winner.

One last disclaimer: We, the subreddit moderators, do not wish for spam in the Reddit. If you spam it, you’ll be disqualified. Your activity also has to have some level of quality in it, so if we see that you’ve only posted things that everyone has downvoted and that clearly lack substance or are offensive or otherwise against the rules, you’ll be disqualified.

Point is: Unless you’re posting for malicious purposes, you’ve got nothing to worry about, and no fear that you might be “spamming” the subreddit.

Here’s also a ChipIn page if someone wants to support with the turboship prize. (I know a few Turbos did say they could probably support it with a few dollars)

Not really sure how you can avoid spamming the page when activity is the point. I mean I get the quality point, but if someone spams good stuff (all unique) would that disqualify them?

“Spam” in on itself is about repeatedly posting something unrelated or without essence, so you can’t really spam good stuff. But I get what you mean, I tried to make it clear in the first post. If you manage to fill the page in five minutes with brilliant links that are related to the subreddit and get many upvotes, go for it!

The subreddit moderators will of course handle anything we note is spam.

@Caelnias Isophist is right in informing everyone that this contest has nothing to do with Fraser, the Mods or anyone connected to the VGA hierarchy. Simply put if anyone gets butthurt over this contest for any reason this lets them know who is and isn’t responsible IE: in charge of this contest. The mods and Fraser have enough stuff to deal with and frankly your attitude is rather unbecoming for someone trying to give back.

I’m trying to understand Caelnias’ reply to Isophists comment. I could be completely wrong here but I’m gonna take a stab at how you guys interpreted some things.

Iso said “Not Fraser, not us, not anyone else” I think he just meant that this isn’t an official thing associated with the site. Nothing more than that. Just a random contest held by a user.

Cael said “I’m not doing this by myself so “not anyone else” is kind of plain out wrong and mean.” I feel like you may have interpreted his comment as making fun of you because nobody has really said they’re taking part in the contest yet. The fact that you said it was “mean” leads me to believe this. Maybe you also read into it a little more because that other contest you held didn’t get that much attention, too. Though it also sounds like you guys have a bit more history I don’t know about.

This is all speculation of course. Let me know if I’m getting warmer or colder.

What I meant was that it’s quite ignorant to claim that I work at this alone, as obviously we’ve discussed this with Leprechaun, the co-adminstrator of the VGA Reddit. We’ll of course also give credit to anyone who donates to the prize pool.

Edit: I will also take note that “we” is a banned word.

Anyhow, this is fairly much off-topic. To get back on the topic, I added a little bit of clearing words into the first post. Basically, as long as you don’t post with malicious intent, you don’t need to worry about getting disqualified.

Hm. See and my thought on first reading this was it’s important to know it’s not site sponsored bc some people could accidentally find it hypocrital if the *site* was setting up a contest, when it has always stressed that Turbo is a nice perk for donating, but donating means it’s just something you feel like doing. If someone misunderstood that the site and mods were saying “hey, go do this” it would muddy the waters on that topic which already has had…ahem…a lot of back and forth. ;) So myself I don’t see the site distancing itself as a slam to anyone involved, just making sure there’s no confusion.

Neat idea anyway, and good luck Caelnias. I prob won’t be able to help myself, as soon as I have more free time it’s going to go the MC server but hey, good luck with it!

Still. Filling the page with only links from you (Being Good, not junk) is “spamming” and shuts out others. This contest is technically who can spam the most. Plus, they can also get fake accounts and up-vote their own links too. And possibly even get just buddies who don’t even watch the stuff or look at it to just up it.

Sorry, if I’m being alittle derpy about this.
