The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That is a soundtrack that I will never stop listening to. I’m very sad to say that the soundtrack in Skyrim is one of the most pathetic soundtracks I’ve ever heard.
Here are some of the best songs from Oblivion:

Yeah i didn’t get how they took a step backwards with Skyrim from Oblivion in terms of music. Imo music is very important to the feel of a game. It doesn’t ruin a game too much if the music is bad but it doesn’t help me like it more.
I do like Asura’s Wrath as well. I’m very much into orchestration music.August 7, 2012 at 4:58 pm #46837
There are a lot of obvious games I could say, or I could repeat myself and say something like Final Fantasy Tactics or Wild Arms 2 or even Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
But I played a little game called Botanicula a few months back. As I said in the ‘games you beat recently’ thread, it was a nice little point and click game. Pretty short; but still the atmosphere was nice. One thing I had very high praise for was the music. For a little game like that, the way music was so skillfully integrated into everything you did was such a delight. Even on it’s own though, it is very mellow and pleasant.August 7, 2012 at 5:59 pm #46844
I love the ending theme to Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations (one of my newest favorite video game series ever).
It is happy yet sad…really good.August 7, 2012 at 6:16 pm #46846
I’m playing through Skyward Sword again and it while I always liked the music, I never realised just how incredible it actually is. The use of Woodwind instruments in the Soundtrack is particularly nice. One of the greatest orchestral soundtracks of all time, on par with Mario Galaxy me thinks.
This song is incredibly simple, but beautiful. One of my favourites from the game.
Another one from my favourite area in the game
And finally, one of my favourite sections of the game with a really cool, atmospheric song. Spoilers for a little under half-way through the game for this one
Bonus Bonus song thats the same as above, but performed an awesome way! (quality isn’t the best, but it’s still good!)August 8, 2012 at 7:29 am #46912
Ya know what game soundtracks I really don’t like that much? Fallout 3 and New Vegas. There are a few songs I like but mostly I turn it down for background static. And the ambiance music in Fallout 3 and New Vegas is kinda lame and doesn’t really add that much atmosphere which is funny because Fallout 1 and 2 has great ambiance music when you enter an area. Heck you can even guess what kind of area it is based on the ambiance music.
I also don’t really care for Final Fantasy Tactics music, its not bad but there isn’t much there in my opinion. I do like Final Fantasy IX music though, go figure lol.August 9, 2012 at 6:05 pm #47049
Since Tactics is my favorite game, I have played it alot. Probably more than any other game, so the music cues specific memories or events in the game. So I think that is part of why I love it so much. It was also the first game I played that had a soundtrack that was so orchestral. Before I got my PS1, I’d only ever played the NES and the Genesis, so this was my first taste of what the newest technology could offer. So there’s also a nostalgia factor to it.August 9, 2012 at 9:31 pm #47061
My favorite song from a video game would have to be “Scars of Time” from Chrono Cross.
Seriously I could listen to this over and over.
And I also have to mention Final Fantasy VI (really the whole FF franchise has awesome music)August 9, 2012 at 10:30 pm #47064
It’s pretty much illegal to have one of these without mentioning Kingdom Hearts. All of the music in this series is beautiful, Especially the Themes by Utada Hikaru. (Orchestrated Simple and Clean, whaaaat?)
My personal favorite track from any game has to be National Park from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (and the remakes), with Unwavering Emotions (Pokemon Black+White) as a close second. Pretty much all music from the Pokemon Series, really… minus the battle themes from Black and White.. i don’t know, it just bugs me.August 10, 2012 at 3:30 pm #47154
This new thing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmx17Mwo-2c
It’s from an upcoming game, but it’s so good that I couldn’t not put it here.August 10, 2012 at 7:51 pm #47180
I know not many have played it but here’s some awesome harpsichord from World of Warcaft Raid Dungeon Karazhan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WghBYhOU4GgAugust 10, 2012 at 8:44 pm #47194
This is just absolutely beautiful. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it.August 16, 2012 at 9:17 am #48229
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftvpi-6Z6qw – Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura Main Theme. My absolute favorite theme song for a role playing game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WuQWVekKX8 -Catherine It’s a Golden Show song. Really great beat to it. Another of my favorites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r50bTK49Gzc – FFIX Battle Music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHpuSFWOKAo -Asura’s Wrath- Great music for something of behemoth proportions. THIS ENDS NOW!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGyB093QOIo -Hour long full soundtrack of Fallout 1 & 2. Great music and ambiance for the game. Gives a much better tone to the game. A darker one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1oxIrAX39M – Deus Ex- Pretty kick-ass in its own right.August 16, 2012 at 9:30 pm #48330
There are plenty of soundtracks that I love. I love pretty much all Zelda music with Majora’s Mask being my personal favourite soundtrack. One of my favourites from that soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNDLoncWz30
Ace Attorney has got a lot of kick-ass songs throughout its series. Perhaps my favourite video game song of all time from the first game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdIlP488n14
Bastion is possibly my favourite soundtrack of all time from any game. It is absolutely brilliant. Example of its awesomeness here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-aexLJKwME
Shadow of the Colossus also has a pretty amazing soundtrack. I listen to a lot of those tracks from time to time. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svRZz5t-6uU
Also, it’s pretty well known, but I catch myself either whistling or humming this song from Super Mario Bros. 3 all the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TO0N4KxzPE

I really prefer the classics when it comes to video game music. Some of my favorites are Journey to Silius,
Power Blade and Batman for the NES. Awesome, awesome stuff. All games in the Wild Arms-series also has great tunes,
if you’re into western-themed music.
