I don’t really have much to say right now. The idea is new and original. But I cant shake the feeling that it will just be another good on paper, bad in game idea. What do you guys think?
June 4, 2012 at 5:22 pm #35252That was in game that they showed. I might be misunderstanding your concerns? From the demo i saw i think it won’t be the next grand theft auto but as a new franchise i think it will do quite well. The hype trailer at the beginning really opened my eyes to the questions and facts they were presenting. The plot is somewhat solid, almost like a tv series. “If you had all that power what would you do?” essentially.
I don’t think we will be seeing that on console for maybe a year or 2. Right now as i typed it was confirmed Watch_Dogs was on PC during the conference. Its still in development even for the PC. The feelings you experience in “Good on paper bad in game” is nothing but skepticism for change…a new idea as you stated. I wish i could be a games critic, and as i use my words to describe me feelings for this idea i have to overlook any fear for change. Try your broccoli with butter or cheese before you throw them away and write them off.
Im ranting now but i hope you got the point of what i was saying. I am wanting to see more from this game as it develops. Thanks for reading -Jman

I have supported and were excited for some games that I thought would bring new things to gaming. A lot of them just did not turn out good, like I said, a very good on paper bad in game ideas. Some were terrible, very little actually were even good, I just don’t want to put my faith in a new game idea Ive only seen 1 game play demo for. Im just trying to be cautious, I really do hope its good and set a new bar for the sandbox genre. I would love to see change in video games. Im just not sure if this is the right way things should be going. If this becomes popular. I would hate to see the copy cats that come afterwards.

Well then i think this is a great direction for them to be going. The thing about the consumer is that some are smart and some are spoon fed monkeys. The ones that are smart will be able to sort the copy cats from the original. Their also is the brilliance of the idea….you can’t copy it because it is not GTA and its not a traditional shooter so they can’t do that. If they tried to combine them then results will be disastrous. You also have to come up with a copycat plot to copycat the game play mechanics. Besides if any copycats were to come, it’s not like we can do anything. We can’t do anything but buy the damn thing and play it lol But if the general consensus is strong enough on it they will listen to the consumer (Sort of in the style of the Mass Effect 3 ending dlc).
While i’m throwing around GTA i can bring up another point of copycats (Not a very good word to use, ill try inspiration). GTA inspired Saints row, plain and simple. If their was no GTA then their wouldn’t have been a Saints Row. Saints row was good so im glad they decided to use the same formula as GTA to push themselves into the market. They are a smart bunch who made that game because they didn’t just throw one in there. They gave it a budget, had a good plot, and made good characters. So back to Watch_Dogs, I hope that if any game company had the balls to make a copycat then it better have some sort of plot. If it doesn’t then people will damn well be able to figure that out.
If game companies are smart then they will not try to do anything similar to the plot. Sony conference starts in 7 minutes. This is going to be interesting as well.
June 4, 2012 at 5:56 pm #35266A new IP is always a risk and I’m always pleased when a big company decides to take that risk.
So I’m not gonna complain about the game until after it’s released.Much rather have chance of something new and awesome, than to always play it safe with essentially just more of the same.

I completely agree.
June 4, 2012 at 8:53 pm #35339I think it’s going to come down to how freely we can use our abilities and to what extent. Was that collision that we saw something that you can do at will or can you only use it in specific spots. Also, are there opportunities to use it in a non-scripted way to your benefit beyond causing simple destruction?
Same with the information on people. It’s an interesting idea, but is the information on people outside of my main objective going to be beneficial or just useless noise? Can I use this information to more effectively deal with this person or is it just background?
I just feel like it’s such an ambitious and certainly costly new IP that Ubisoft is going to devote the necessary time to giving it the depth and complexity it merits.
June 4, 2012 at 9:05 pm #35347Since it’s Ubisoft Montréal, is there a chance that it could be like Assassin’s Creed? Kind of open world with sidequests and main quests but allowed to roam freely. I’m also pretty interested since they kind of hinted at Multiplayer at the end, working together or trying to stop the others?
Really good potential and they have what it takes to make it right if we look at the gameplay trailer. I can’t find anything from Ubisoft but Joystick is saying current-gen console (Ps3, 360) and PC. (What we probably saw.)
From a game that I never heard of before today, it’s probably my most anticipated game right now.

100% Agree!
