I was thinking about this after I bought Max Payne 3 on the strength of watching the gang play it through. When I actually played the game I pretty much hated it for various reasons including the many many unskippable cut-scenes which I probably didn’t register on the show because of the other things going on.

Now this is not about whether you agree with me or not – we all have our own interests and gaming preferences. But what game did you hate playing either before or after you actually enjoyed it on the stream?

Heavy Rain for sure. Call me an unsubtle action junky, but I can’t play a story, just doesn’t work for me.
But watching someone play it was pretty entertaining, just like a film, and with Fraser’s inability to use motion controllers and the gangs general antics it was one of the best shows yet.

Heavy Rain and both Arkham games (yeah flame me, I think they are overrated blenders). Max Payne 3 for me was the total opposite, didnt like nearly anything I saw, but it played like a blast.

I’ve had problems with games they’ve played when playing myself like Heavy Rain and Max Payne 3 but can’t recall a game they played that I really hated… probably the closest they’ve come is Saints Row The Third or Dead Island, loved the shows but had the most problems with the games than any other they’ve played.

Oh actually! Alan Wake, I’d love to see them play that through in full because that episode was hysterically funny but I didn’t like the game at all, it’s writing killed it (despite being written by the guy who wrote the first two Max Payne games which I adore for the writing).

Pretty much all “Scary” games. I don’t have any problem watching horror movie (Actually my best friend and I love watching them.) or watch someone play a scary game but I enter too much into a game when I play it myself. I never was able to finish Dead Space (Too much stress) but I loved watching Fraser play Amnesia.

So it’s not really that I hate playing them, (I honestly don’t remember ever really hating a game.) it’s mostly that I can’t do it.

Heavy Rain, as I believe it holds up better as a cinematic experience (I know I’d be horrible at a purely quicktime based game), the Arkham games, which I have honestly tried to enjoy but just can’t get into the gameplay, but love the atmosphere and dialogue, and, of course, all of the crap they’ve played. I’m never more excited for a VGA show then one for a game I know is absolutely terrible. I still go back and run the Duke Nukem Forever playlist in the background while I do something every once and a while, and of course the complete horror in their eyes as they lucked their way through Mario Party 9 is always entertaining.

For me most certainly saints row 3. It’s the type of silly over the top game I might drop an hour or two into (I’m not generally into ‘bubblegum fluff’ like lollipop chainsaw or those types of games either) before getting bored and wanting to play something more serious in tone. That being said, watching the gang mess around in it and seeing their reactions to some of the missions was hilarious. Another one was Catherine, I would never be interested in playing an anime story about a cheating dbag, but watching couples coop of it was great.

I do enough research about games before I buy them that I never really end up buying a game I hate ( I can remember all of one at the top of my head). However I do enjoy watching them play certain games I have no intention of playing, such as Lollipop Chainsaw.

Any truly scary horror game (like Amnesia and the better Silent Hills). I can’t stand things jumping out at me and I really hate knowing things are going to jump out and you have no good way to defend but run. At the same time I find these worlds mysterious and interesting and I want to know more.

Also Heavy Rain because all QTA games aren’t my thing.

Not that i hated playing, but i simply wouldn’t play it : Amnesia, VVVVVV, Fez, Heavy Rain, Phoenix Wright.

Mass Effect games. I do not have the time of day to play a long story like that so I really loved it!

For me, it is any one of the more frightening games like Amnesia. (Yeah, I know I am a pussy when it comes to those types of games) Also the games which have stories I am interested in, but don’t like the game play style (Lollipop Chainsaw, Heavy Rain, Uncharted)
