euske replied to the topic New World Discussion: TENTATIVE Date – October 1st in the forum Minecraft AWESOME! 4 days, 13 hours ago
Yeah I can certainly see that, on the day that the new world is open, a lot of users who never have (or very few times) logged on will log into the server, make a half-baked, unlit build, then just leave it there and never come back again. At the same time, that’s the charm of the server too. I hope Mods put some rules on building around the…[Read more]

Sorry for a bit of ranting, but I really don’t get what people are expecting. Were they really going to play the same world for another ten years? How about thirty years? If not, what do they mean by “permanent map?” Nothing is permanent. Even if the show continues for decades from now, there are inevitable changes to Minecraft. The world will…[Read more]

As for the server map, I can’t answer when a new map is going to be created or the current map becomes unavailable; the map images are rendered by the server, and it was set up by Mods. Here’s the story. When the current world was created, Mods didn’t intend to make a server-wide map. So I toured the server and collected chunk data (I made special…[Read more]

I’m all for a new world. The current world is increasingly gridlocked and there are tons of slate builds taking up the space. We should periodically take fresh air.

Yay for terraforming!
Count me in. I’m not sure when you’re on though, I usually log into the server in early morning in the U.S. timezone.

Just a quick shoutout. Big thanks to Pd and people who joined. Although I didn’t kill a lot of zombie pigmen, I had a great time chatting and wandering. Hope to see you guys next time!

euske replied to the topic The Adblock controversy in the forum Everything Else 2 weeks, 4 days ago
TL;DR: Don’t read this.
I am surprised that many people still think that sitting through ads somehow magically gives them money. It doesn’t. When you look at the only two parties (an ad platform and content provider; YouTube and the VGA crew) it might look that way, but there’s a much larger picture. An ad platform is sponsored by an ad client…[Read more]

Oh yeaaaah! I was late at the last time and missed the battle.
One minor concern: a regular (free) Skype probably has a maximum number of chatters that can join one call at the same time. So if many people are joining, you might have some of them text-chatting only.
Anyway, I’m very much excited about it.

Sooo, here’s a wrap up. The evaluation phase has ended and the final results were announced. I’m at 848th place out of 1610 submitted games. Not terribly good, but not terribly bad either.
Here’s the detailed breakdown and comments:

I didn’t watch the whole thing, but it seems that Xbox One is a pretty smart move on them, and it will be highly successful if it’s done right. In short, they’ve decided to abandon hardcore gamers and focused entirely on the most profitable segment of gaming population: casual gamers. They are targeting average U.S. households that have a decent…[Read more]

> As far as monetizing combined works. Well, how do programs that are used for commercial works manage this sort of thing?
Software license is a mess. Most of the times, you “embed” commercial libraries (read: engines, components, frameworks, etc.) into your finished product, but the terms and conditions for each library vary a lot. Some…[Read more]

Whoa, whoa. I didn’t realize you’ve made so many episodes, Pd! And they’re very good! I kinda knew you’ve started a new series, but I simply forgot about it for a while and was still subscribed to your old channel. I’ll keep check it out from now. Again, thanks for the good show. Simply put, Minecraft Awesome Is Awesome … Is Awesome.

To kshade: I was thinking of something like the Heavy Rain episode. Of course it wasn’t identical to anyone else’s gameplay, but I could say it’s similar enough to the point that it invalidates my need of buying the game, because I don’t think I could have a better experience playing the game by myself rather than watching the show. Yeah, people…[Read more]

I think the fundamental problem here is that there’s no easy way to handle a combined work in the current copyright laws. LPs are very complex work. It is a combination of a video game and a player, and a video game itself is a combination of a program, music and graphics, etc. Furthermore, a program itself is often a combination of many smaller…[Read more]

Calm down, bro. This is typical Internet hysteria that we all know too well, and you shouldn’t just pick up the most ugly part of the Internet (arbitrary) and exaggerate it as if it is a problem of the entire Net. This kind of attitude is worsening the issue because it induces emotional responses from both sides. You don’t know how those news…[Read more]
