Because it’s digital only. If Xbox One was digital only, this would be acceptable. But it’s not. From what I read, it might not even be hurting Gamestop which would be the only real “positive” I could get from this.

I’m honestly not too surprised. Nintendo’s less dickish/insane as other major gaming companies on how successful their IPs have to be, but they can’t justify a series doing that poorly considering everything that goes into it, especially the latest game.

I’m not a big fan of used gaming either (especially since it’s all Gamestop basically) but forcing people to pay to borrow games completely invalidates any argument there is. Period. I’d be more annoyed if it wasn’t so pathetic. Or if I thought Xbox had any chance at this point (or at all in the first place tbh).

oidisco is one of the many people that believe Sega went 3rd party because of the Dreamcast alone. That is blatantly false, they went 3rd party because of incredibly bad relations between the Japanese and American parts of the company and Sega not having the insane amount of money as Nintendo does right to justify staying in the console business.

I’d honestly pull a “wait and see” approach to this for multiple reasons but…even as someone often willing to defend Nintendo, I don’t want them in PR suicide mode. I really don’t want that.

I think the main issue would be the narration. Just playing it myself, I got annoyed by how much there was at times, but trying to read it all on the show could be really bad.

My more realistic idea is for Nintendo to be very close with non-AAA developers (for lack of a better term, um…developers making ambitious retail games that aren’t owned by the big publishers I guess) making AAA style games. I honestly think Nintendo should become some Disney ultra megazord corporation or some shit, and just own enough developers that 3rd party is a non-issue. It would honestly be much easier at this point than actually getting 3rd parties to consistently sell.

DS was still getting better games than 3DS in 2011. Why would I buy N64 games I already own and a Pilotwings version of a single part of Wii Sports Resort over Okamiden or Ghost Trick? 3DS only started selling because of Mario.

I think its more of a modern console issue that barring maybe the Wii, the first year of all systems have minimal worthwhile games you can’t get elsewhere for way cheaper. Maybe not even modern, if what I know of the NES and N64 are any indication. And Genesis got lucky that arcade ports mattered.
